I’m sure you’ve heard it before. A young woman like me, likes older men. Clearly, she must have daddy issues. (I don’t, by the way).
But how come when a young woman like me, likes older women, I don’t have mummy issues?
Why don’t the older men/women who like younger men/women, have son/daughter issues?
Why is it solely ‘ah, another one with daddy issues’ ? |

"For me, I get uncomfortable if a woman is too similar in age to my daughter. So, it’s me having issues not the woman. "
Yes I get that, which is understandable, but why is it always assumed that a woman who likes older men has daddy issues? |

Totally agree.
I get this comment a lot and have had people say it on here, I must have daddy issues liking older men.
Surprisingly not! People are allowed to have a preference! Good point about young men and mummy issues though, funny how I’ve never seen it mentioned like that for young men! |

It’s a very good question. And I’m going to say something you don’t often hear on the forums. ‘I don’t know’. |

It’s just always bothered me, I have a very lovely, normal and healthy relationship with my dad. So no daddy issues from me!

I've not yet seen derogatory comments like that made about women that prefer men older than themselves. It's rare to see such things on here certainly (unless it's about how rude women are not replying to men's messages). I have seen bitchy comments made about younger men and older women though but nothing specifically in regard to daddy/mommy issues.
Although I may just not have been looking hard enough to be fair |

I like hot, curvaceous, busty women in the mid twentys to mid fortys age range who come under the description of 'classy but no knickers'
I know i have an issue- its not being able to get hold of them |

We are both attracted to our age and younger , (it would be hard to be attracted to older as we are ancient). The label “Daddy issues” is, in our opinion, simply laziness from people who have to have a reason that someone could enjoy the company out of age group. There are stunning people out there who are our age and older and we can totally understand a younger person being attracted. Daddy issues is a pure red herring. It’s unfair but so is life.
It is also of course a taboo subject which titilates many hence the popularity of the phrase.

Cougar / Cubs is perfectly acceptable as women are empowered to reclaim their sexuality.
Whereas men are dirty old men for liking younger women.
So if you are a young woman who likes the older men, you must be doing things wrong...
People love a good label, particularly if you aren't looking for what they offer. Fuck em. |

It probably roots back to some Freudian theory where your parenting is the cause of any "faults" or issues you have in life.
I also think it's an alpha male butt hurt thing where younger guys need to make up a reason why girls aren't attracted to them. The same reason they don't have mummy issues, because snagging an older lady or someone normally out of their norm is somehow gloat worthy. |

Of course it’s a case of person depending.
But the fact is, I PREFER older men to men my own age, so essentially it is still a preference.
There’s no need to get specific as long as everyone’s having fun! |

You may not see them because it’s mostly via message!
Before my age filter the amount of “daddy issues” comments I’d get from guys who I weren’t interested in, I’ve lost count. In my opinion it is a comment made by a butt hurt man who can’t take rejection! |

I suppose it is because the ‘Daddy Dom’ is a real fantasy for some men and women and is the preferred kink of some dom/subs.
But the same doesn’t apply to female Dommes, so it is really a hangover from our male-dominated social history. |

The perceived stability of an older, wiser man, what's not to like. You don't need daddy issues for that. Labels are easy to slap on, the ability too understand takes effort. |

Daddy issues - normally insinuated by a younger guy wondering why you fancy your other half and not him.
We were discussing this last night, it's not uncommon to see large age gaps on FAB but we also concluded that many young guys (and ladies) are too jealous and lack the life experience to enjoy the lifestyle on this site.
But in the end its all labels - do what's good for you |

So I assume this guy is around the same age and has the same name as your dad. I say just listen to what that does for you. If it feels kinky just roll with it. It doesn't need to mean anything in real life. It may just be so taboo that it turns you on. If it just feels urgh then clearly that isn't part of the kink for you and just call him something else |

Maybe its no longer common but it was quite usual for men who liked older women to be labelled as looking for a mother figure. Jokes would be made about him looking for someone to iron his shirts and other hilarious quips .
I know three women who've married men much older than themselves and I have to say that I think one of them was looking for a father figure.
I do think though that making any assumptions about other people's relationships is although tempting, often misguided.

"For me, I get uncomfortable if a woman is too similar in age to my daughter. So, it’s me having issues not the woman.
Yes I get that, which is understandable, but why is it always assumed that a woman who likes older men has daddy issues?"
It's an absolute load of shite. |

It’s an older person thing. I say it all the time...kids eh? It’s tongue in cheek. I would say it about someone my age too. |

Does this really bother you? That they have the same name? Do you use your Dad's given name or call him Dad (or any other variation on father)? If so, why would his given name be an issue?
I'm curious because my fwb has the same name as my Dad, but tbh, until you mentioned it, it never struck me as something odd or noteworthy... Lots of people have that name... My own name is the female version ffs |

Maybe it is an older person thing, that’s probably why I don’t understand it.
Still, if I were bantering with an older man or flirting and he said “kids eh” or similar it would be a put off! Each to their own and all that! |

Honestly? No not really. My old fb had the same name as my brother. That was a bit weirdo, as I do use my brothers name, but they’re spelt differently and although it’s the exact same name, I feel I say them differently (I probably don’t). I just called my ex fb ‘sir’ a lot |

Probably because those people with the power to label such things (such that they stick) were influenced by Freud and came from a patriarchal background which didn't acknowledge the existence of unsettling ideas such as 2 women loving each other or a young man fancying an older woman.
Also in part because the most common age disparity is (I believe) older man/younger woman and that's probably biology.

Too late in afraid, he's been dead for years but it's worth understanding his role, he shaped a lot of our culture's ideas about the mind and sexuality while, sadly, being almost entirely wrong. Plenty of people still go to see Freudian analysts which frankly boggles my mind but there, it does offer nice, comforting and simple explanations as opposed to complicated and incomplete ones :D

To be honest I quite respect him for trying and find it sad and hilarious that he wasn't able to that see his own hangups were so skewing his analysis. Hardly surprising he (and the rest) was wrong though given the culture, and knowledge and equipment available at the time.
Even more exciting to me is more recent work that strongly (to my mind) indicates that our conscious self is really a back-seat driver desperately trying to justify the choices the subconscious has made for it :D

100% agree.
I prefer a more experienced/mature man myself. The only time it becomes an issue is if I find out he has children the same/close in age/older than myself and then I become a little uncomfortable.
I lost my virginity to much older man (no, nothing weird- we were very much in love, together for 4 years and still very close friends with both him and his now wife) so once I had sex with someone my own age when we split up and realised how inexperienced they were I stuck with the older crowd and I guess it’s become just what I like.
I rarely go for anyone under 35, I’m 26. Last few people I’ve met on here (intentionally anyway..) have been in the last of their 30s or early-mid 40s. |

I think younger men get accused of having mummy AND daddy issues when speaking to us oldies.
Personally, Ive always found people of different age groups a turn on. Older people tend to be able to make me look at the world in a different light, experience definately counts for something.
As an older man now, I do find younger women as attractive as women my own age and older. Immaturity is offputting, but there's also something to be said for mature minded, inexperience. It's a pleasure to teach someone something new that helps them feel better about themselves, or improves their life in some way. Be it in a sexual arena, or any other.

"For me, I get uncomfortable if a woman is too similar in age to my daughter. So, it’s me having issues not the woman.
Yes I get that, which is understandable, but why is it always assumed that a woman who likes older men has daddy issues?
It’s a very good question. And I’m going to say something you don’t often hear on the forums. ‘I don’t know’.
It’s just always bothered me, I have a very lovely, normal and healthy relationship with my dad. So no daddy issues from me!
Thank you for answering honestly "
But also the older fella gets beamed a sugar daddy |

He may be labelled a lot of things, but never as someone with ‘daughter issues’ |

I have daddy issues. I was in denial all my life until a couple of years ago when someone pointed it out to me. It took another 2 years of soul searching and a couple of months ago i finally admitted it to myself |

"I'm no sugar daddy.. being skint. No daughter issues as I've got two boys
I could do with a sugar daddy who’s cool with no physical contact"
A real Daddy? |

Someone on my FB put a status up yesterday about using the term “daddy” he basically said anyone who uses it are into children, I was so close to writing a long reply about kink shaming and how the term “daddy” has various connotations. Then I remembered it was FB not fab |

Like others have said I think it's just left over from a patriarchal society, obviously women can't have sexual tastes of their own and need to rely on men to sort their issues out . I much prefer meeting older men on here too and have a wonderful dad. |

It’s a very good point, however, I’ve had young ladies, young guys and cds/TVs refer to me as daddy and in obviously a sexual context, which personally is not for me. The however bit though, is, have older ladies ever been referred to as mummies by younger people in a sexual scenario. |

You’ll get a smacked bottom with that kind of behaviour. |
