IN the dark welsh valley

On the mountain side

Lay the little children

Close to where thay died

Their little lives have ended

Before thay reach there goal

Tender little children

Have paid the price for coal

We will never forget 21-10-66

I was a kid, it was on the TV news, I watched it with my nan and grandad.

The BBC cameras were focused on the rescue workers, and even now, 50 years later, what stayed with me was the silence, no words, no voices, just people working silently albeit desperately to rescue those children adults trapped beneath that colliery waste.

Even though it was before I was born,it was still gut wrenching to drive down the valley and see the little white crosses on the hillside above x

Fareham

I was just a little girl but I remember how scary it was seeing the scene on TV. In the years that followed and with each anniversary my understanding increased and I realised just how huge this tragedy was. It still makes me shudder now. RIP to a lost generation
