Dysfunctional breathing is not asthma!

I've finally been told that I'm not suffering with exercise induced asthma; but i have been given the final piece to this annoying jigsaw puzzle.

It's only taken 37 years to get to this point, it probably explains why inhalers and tablets never worked.

My symptons/ailments are now as follows:

Dust allergy

Post Nasal drip

Wonky nostril structure

GERD aka far too much stomach acid being produced and rising up the gullet

And last on the list Dysfunctional breathing aka diaphragm spasms/wheezing.

Has any one here any experience or knowledge of DB?

Never had it officially diagnosed but I noticed my asthma wheeze improved when I started taking antacids, so now if I get asthma symptoms I try gaviscon first before running to my inhaler even if I don't feel the acid reflux

Do you sneeze when drinking alcohol, or feel as if your wind pipe is closing over if you have aspirin or gin (acidic plant extracts to blame here)? Because I do.

So what's stopping you getting an official diagnosis? GPS need to have this condition spring to mind when asthmatics aren't having any joy.

Andrews is my choice of antacid. Tastes lovely.

I've been started off with PPIs (protein pump inhibitors), it's early days yet and I'm getting my 2nd hospital visit in a few weeks.

I can swim a whole length on one breath, my peak flow is 600 litres a minute, my VO2 max is 49, I also had a 4th place on STRAVA for a KOM ranking.

Sometimes it's worth pestering GPs to get things done.

I sometimes get the constricted windpipe feeling when drinking champagne or prosecco but never gin thankfully

Went to my gp about a closed windpipe/silly cough which I'd had for weeks and weeks and he prescribed omaprozole for reflux, cleared it right up in a few days so I've been using antacids ever since.

I tend not to go to gp for anything asthma related unless absolutely necessary as I always end up in an argument with them as to why I think ventalin is the devil and refuse to change my meds! Lol

It's highly addictive and withdrawal from it can actually give asthma like symptoms prompting you to take it more.

Everyone I've ever known on ventolin exceeds the recommended dose because they feel they "need" to take it more often. Generic salbutamol isn't as bad but I found the seratide with a mix of steroid and 12 hour dose of salbutamol to be the best one for me, I only take my inhaler when I have a cold now, doc still keeps trying to put me back on ventolin though at every asthma check

I used to go years without taking inhalers, white and red, brown, purple, biege, blue. Nothing worked. By the time I had beenlistened to and got given Montelukast, that work on leukotrienes instead, they'd be available unknown to me, for 10 years.

However monetelukast, seems to reduce the friction and raspiness, but not the spasms. But the high pulse rate trigger zone is 150-155 bpm, going straight to 180 bpm or thereabouts.

My all time bpm record was a decade ago at 204 bpm, on a hill climb and yes, I did feel it!

Coconut (Bounty will do quite nicely) and raw cabbage tendrils (the white bits in the middle of the leaf) do reduce bronchial soreness.

I've just had my deviated septum operated on and hopefully straightened. The operation was quick and the anaesthetic was amazing...breath this O2 as the needle goes in, 3...2...1...Hello! your operation was a success. This was the perfect experience as I was more awake after I woke up. This for an insomniac, like myself is sheer bliss; instant deep and refreshing sleep. This needs to be bottled NOW! LOL Haven't needed any painkillers since being discharged.

The food was lousy though, as was the hourly wake ups for obs and 3 ward changes in one night.

My physio starts when my nose stops being swollen.

This things take time, with sinus infections so wish me luck.

A calendars have been and gone, I still can't smell the nice stuff, aftershave roast dinners. It feels like I'm getting the tail end of it. a very narrow specrum!

However the bad smells are still getting through at full strength. Pity about the collapsing nostril never getting fixed.
