I'm just cooking up a yummy big cep (boletus) I picked in the woods a little earlier today.

Any other funghi foragers out there? If so what have you found this year? And what's your favourite?

Cue the "funghi to be with" jokes

your imagination

We used to go mushroom picking as a family when we were kids... They just tasted wonderful when we got home and Mum fried them up on the pan. Sadly a lot of the areas we would have foraged back then are under housing developments now, or have no trespassing notices... Times have truly changed.

I love the idea but I'm too scared of picking the wrong ones and poisoning myself!

"Mostly pick chanterelles."

Lucky man They're pretty hard to find around here. You're confident you can spot the difference between a genuine chanterelle and a false one yeah? It's all in the gills

I think that's more of an issue in the UK.

To be honest I'm glad you guys are reticent, as better that than naive and end up coming a cropper. Some of the most deadly can look like shop mushrooms to the uneducated eye. If it's white and got white gills underneath it could be the lethal "destroying angel" Not good

There are usualy lots in the forest near me, but the wardens try to protect them. Restaurants often harvest too many.

Last year my pug Draco ate some mushrooms that were at the bottom of my Granny and Grandads garden and threw up everywhere

I’m sending you a video of him. Although you rudely ignored my last one...
