Is it just me but I'm a blubbering mess when I hear a heart wrenching song that has meaning either at that moment or when being reflective? Like tonight for example! |

"Damien Rice - blowers daughter
Oh yes, I saw him live twice. The album 'O' is a right emotional rollercoaster
Such an emotive voice "
Yes. He was great live in a very small venue, you could hear a pin drop but he was pissed off at larger venue due to people chatting during the quiet songs. |

In your eyes live, by PG was awesome. Saw him live in 1993 in Nimes, when it wasn't his birthday!
Yours?"

Jeff Buckley - Lover You Should Have Come Over
On a bit of a tangent, Strange Fruit by Billie Holliday...
I'd heard that song so many times, but then one time coming off the back of a heavy weekend I actually *listened* to it and clocked what the lyrics were really about...

Sacrifice by Elton John. It was always playing in the special baby unit my son was in. He's been dead 28 years and I've never seen the video and still feel a sense of loss when I hear that song.
Dance with my father by Luther Vandross...not a nice man but I still loved him. |

Brothers In Arms - Dire Straights
This.
Always gives me chills and a lump in my throat.
Ss"
I recently rewatched The West Wing, and the use of this track as Martin Sheen’s President Bartlett is journeying to, through a storm and getting soaked, a press conference after tha announcement of his MS where it is known he will be asked if he is going to run for re-election, gets me emotional. And I appreciate how daft I sound, but bloody hell I adored that character as President and that scene because of that track, floors me. *sheepishly backs out of thread embarrassed* |

Phil Collins - One More Night
Although whilst in the pub I changed the lyrics to One More Pint, “please gimme one more pint cause I can’t wait forever”
Went down a treat |

The Verve "the drugs don't work" and here's why if your bored....
12 years ago I emigrated to Australia, half way through my visa application (which took me 2 years to get) my dad contracted prostate cancer.
"No big deal son these days" he told me. I naturally was talking about halting my plans but after discovering a workmate had been treated for years with it, then reading internet info on how it's not the end of the world I decided to carry on.
I'd lived in Perth for almost a year when I was told dad only had weeks to live. He'd always known that he'd actually got a very aggressive tumour and never did respond to the treatment he was given. He'd told me everything was alright so I'd still follow my dreams.
To get a flight at a short notice was so expensive, a lot more than it is booking it a few months away like we do our holidays. I was working through an agency so no holiday pay. I hadn't the money to get back.
Dad was in constant pain and the pressure was building up in me to the point of explosion. I needed to cry badly to ease the pressure but for some reason I couldn't. I don't know why?
I started listening to sad songs on my way back home after my long night shifts but still no joy.
I then remembered that song by The Verve "the drugs don't work"
I knew the song wasn't about recreational drugs but a song about the death of Richard Ashcroft's dad through cancer. When he's singing about the drugs not working he's actually talking about the chemotherapy not working, the drowning of the cat in a bag is in some way depicting the god awful desperate situation his experiencing. I bought the cd and did it ever work.
Instantly listening to Richards words I identified with every line. Yes I cried my eyes out and somehow managed to cope better.
Dad died 3 weeks later and that was 10 years ago last Sunday.
If you didn't realise what that song was about listen to it again? All the words will now make sense.
Bless you Dad x |

Forgot one: At this moment. Prefer Michael Bubles voice but over produced, too "big band" for my taste but Will Downings production.
That said,I become melancholy when I hear Michael sing it but not Will. |

I’ve never had a song make me start to well up until I heard ‘Chris and Stevie’ by Damien Dempsey. The pain of losing two friends builds to a crescendo at the end of the song.
Worth a quick listen if you have Spotify |

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Why can't it be mine |
