I had a health check up yesterday...
My body fat was 18.5%
My blood pressure was 110/62
My glucose level was 5.47
My waist circumference was 85cm
My total cholesterol/hdl ratio was 3.0
But my bmi was 23.6!
What's that all about?

Well, I’m not a doctor so I’m only going from NHS guidelines. Maybe there are healthcare professionals on the forum who know more than I do? |

There a lot of wannabe experts fir sure LOL BMI for the extremely fit but muscly people is chuff but for your average Joe (or clem in this instance) it's a useful guide. |

I had one of these done a few weeks ago and got a call from the gp to go in and discuss the results of the blood tests. I thought here we go, time for fatty bashing. I was very pleasantly surprised!
Got commended for my efforts to lose weight as my bmi has come down significantly in the last year, i was diagnosed with under active thyroid which apparently has been borderline for years which may have contributed to my recurrent miscarriage history and my cholesterol is high but instead of just trying to get me on statins I’m being referred for genetic testing as my dad’s was always high and I may just have a genetic predisposition for it being high so that number might be normal for me.

All looks ok yeah cholesterol is a little low but it’s also a good thing
As for bmi it’s still used in healthcare a lot although the data is misleading as you can be full of muscles and look big like a heavyweight boxer and bmi high the figures would say unhealthy yet you’d know it’s all muscle so it’s not bad, hence in USA they using an alternative which takes into consideration this issue and the data is more accurate.
The nhs will move to this soon but takes time |
