Disco, soul, jazz and funk train part 2

Hey all,

So a while back I made a forum asking for recommendations of old school rare records of the above genres. Because I got loads of good tracks from it thought I'd ask again.

A bit about me: I'm a crate digger who uses these records for sampling and then making hip hop tracks. Usually the more abstract and rare the record, the better. But yeah I mostly use intros or breaks because then there's no background interference but I'm open as I can also loop good bars.

Oh and any foreign records would be very welcome

Recently came across a cover of the O'Jays Backstabbers by Lyn Collins featuring James Brown, that was an ear-perking moment...

Otherwise maybe Sharon King and the DAP Kings (not like that! ) How Long Do I Have To Wait For You?

I'm sure you could mine level 42s stuff plenty if you haven't already.

The slap bass intro to love games

https://youtu.be/Wvq85yKCydg

The intro off out of sight and out of mind is awesome too.

https://youtu.be/UKU4S2g1hck

I've always wanted to lift the end rift of that tune, from 3:26 onwards as it's just fantastic. If you do that please send me a link to it... from one hippy to another

Thanks! Yeah some great bass in both of those! Love the synth at the start of love games too! Those sounds always remind me of retro video games like sonic.

I most certainly will let you know if I use either. Got a week off soon so gonna spend it hammering my pc until my fingers bleed!

Thanks again!

It's not funk or soul, but I've always been amazed that no-one has sampled the opening to 'It's Too Late' by Carly Simon...kinda got a Dusty Springfield 'Spooky' vibe about it...great fucking piano!

I did mean Carole King!

I don't know why, but my brain always confuses them, which makes it a bloody nightmare when I can't remember what the track is called...

You heard of fantastic negrito? Don't know what's made me think of him but he's gotta be up there with the best live acts I've ever seen
