What's everyone's thoughts on tattoos?

Tattoos on guys Yes/No?

Women with tattoos Yes/No?

Sometimes / somethings but not others?

I'm intrigued

And for the poster above what tattoo would give them & where (if any at all)

I got my tattoos to cover a lot of my burns.

Some like them some don't and that's ok.

Still same guy I was before them so just because I have them shouldn't change someone's opinion about me

As a general rule, I like tattoos on both men and women.

Though there are some really bad ones...

We both have tattoos but I wouldn't choose one for someone else. Tattoos are a very personal thing.

Hubby had been getting ink since he was 13, and tattooing was very different back then.

He’s got tattoos he hates however won’t dream of doing anything to them because they tell a story personal to him. He remembers every emotion at the time he got them.

I know he finds it frustrating putting tattoos on others that are a million times better than his own

.

Best way is to build a portfolio of drawings various styles, multiple references, study the varying styles of tattooing and draw the shit out of them, realism, trad, neo trad, dotwork, jap, the list goes on. Could specialise toward one style of drawing, however being adaptable to all the styles makes you a more appealing artist. Get into the industry, once a portfolio starts to take shape, get to know local artists, voice your desire to follow this career. The amount of people that wish to do this is unreal, hubby was mid thirties before he got an opportunity as before you had to be a biker or born into it kind of thing when he was younger and by that time he had forged a long successful career in a large corporate company.

Forge friendships and interests with local artists

I love tattoos, especially when they are skilfully done and well placed to accentuate the bodies natural shape.

Having said that, my two are over 30 years old and despite having them re-outlined and re-coloured they aren’t the best any more

Good stuff thank you it really does appear to be a closed shop kinda thing. But she has my stubbornness and determination which will serve her well it seems. She's already got a portfolio on going and has hand some demand for her drawings. She's won several competitions already for things she's done. 1 of the the design of my company's swipe cards which considering it's a well known multimillion pound company was a hell of a step. Even more so as they agreed to keeping her name on them. Proud dad but I know I hide it well

That’s hubbys problem, inks are better, rather than having around 7 colours to use now there are hundreds, and tattooing has evolved to actually being art in the skin rather than stamps

Nice one mate encourage her every step of the way. Sadly my parents didn't and I stopped drawing and painting until about 6 years ago.

How long have I known you and we haven't spoken about this. I had no idea you was an arty.

You've known me about 7 years now, oh I've sold a few as well

I'll WhatsApp you some of hers when I get home "

Ok

I like mine, I don't care if someone else has them or not but I do dislike fashion tattoos and people that think you have to have some terrible/lovely reason, other than just liking the subject, to have one.

Hiding in the shadows

I had a fair few done when I was younger, 1 was awful, the others looked old & faded.

I decided to get the awful one covered, got a design I loved, it was quite personal & had significant meaning.

My friends husband, a brilliant artist, agreed to do the work.

With his vision my small 8" cover up ended up taking over half my body, and I love it.

I would never of thought of it myself, or probably been brave enough to go through with it, if I'd walked into any other shop.

A good tattooist, who can create something from a small drawing is amazing.

He's now drawn 2 designs for my other thigh, which will also cover a tacky one I had done at 15.

My biggest issue, they are both brilliant, both very personal & I can't decide which I love most
