It depends on your freezer, some allow you to keep it for 3 months.

We've eaten meat that's been in the freezer over a year. It's perfectly safe, it just deteriorates slightly. You may see freezer burn on it, but it's safe.

I suppose you could keep a turkey in your freezer forever.

Limits what else you could put in there but that in itself would keep the Iceland bill down.

Red meat, I agree... But be careful with poultry... IMHO.
