The Ryder Cup
Jump to: Newest in thread
I can't usually stand watching golf. I find the last bit of the 4 days to be the best. Even then it doesn't always thrill me.
The Ryder Cup is different.
I detest American golf fans.
It's Europe v USA. I just watched the first game tee off and it was buzzing.
You don't have to enjoy golf to get involved in this.
I've got loads of sports on this weekend but I'll be watching as much of this as I can. I love The Ryder Cup.
It must feel like Christmas Day to genuine golf fans.

I've watched them all since I was a kid and I've never heard a crowd like this. Certainly not when it's been in Europe.
The noise gets better each time it's held. This time they have 6000 fans behind the first tee |

I wish the USA were all dressed the same and both teams looked different.
I don't follow golf but know who a few are.
I keep getting a buzz over a missed putt or shit drive just to find one of our boys took the shot. |

Is it just me watching it?
USA ended up 3-1 after this morning.
Europe currently leading 4-0.
It's got all the makings for a fantastic few days.
I don't play golf, I can't stand it if I'm honest but can play okay.
So I'd so much prefer to be watching the shots but these guys must strive on pressure. |

It’s just a brilliant sporting event players really playing for their teams passion to win not who gets the most money I used to be an regular golfer and work in the industry lost a little passion for the game but this event brings it all back |

I know it's only a few days but for me it's up there with sports greatest competitions.
World cups, The Ashes, 3rd round FA Cup, 6 Nations and so on.
I put the Olympics and Commonwealth games in a different bracket as they are multi sports.
I know Sunday is single rounds but what is tomorrow? |

"Seen a woman get one in the face "
I've just seen another ball go into the crowd.
Their too fucking close really.
The ones who run to make a line for a shot out the rough are taking a pretty big risk in my eyes |

"Golf is the one where the man gets his stick out and hits his own ball with it right?
Pop over and I'll give you a demo
Ok so what pleasure do you gain from whacking your ball with your stick?" and then try and get it in a hole! On the same bore level as fishing |

I use a heavier stick and a bigger ball for my sport.
It's a great way of letting off steam. |

"It had such an atmosphere to it, they are playing for glory and bragging rights, it’s a great watch "
No shirt, hat etc sponsors.
No prize money.
You take all that away and yet the competition is greater I think.
It means more as you rightly pointed out. |

Exactly ! This is where you see real sportsmen playing for the love of the game compare this to many footballers that play for their paycheck and don’t give 100%
Rant over sorry it’s just great to see |

Was listening on the radio this morning at tee off and atmosphere sounded incredible! |

"USA need 9.5 points (to retain)
Europe need 11 points (win)
At least I think that's what he said
Other way round - Europe need 14.5 points, USA need 14 to take the cup home... "
Oh that sounds much better. A more sensible gap.
cheers |

I backed USA at the start of the tournament as I felt Tiger Woods had hit form at the right time and for once would perform at the Ryder cup but once again has struggled.think Europe will edge it 15 - 13 |

Mickelson should never had been picked and it was a bums on seats picking Tiger |

WOW, amazing result.
I don't feel so bad now when I three putt after watching some of the world's top golfers miss from inches away. Talk about pressure.

I was out for most of yesterday. Checked the score and the lead had been cut to two points.
I needn't of worried though. I watched BBC2 highlights last night and it looked like an amazing last day, some really brave golf.
Just as shame it ended on a tee not a green but I think we can accept that.
Well done Europe, I can't stand American golf fans not that they are all picks.
I love sport when it's respectful and fair play to Fuyrk (sp) and his team being very gracious in defeat. That's how it should be, Well Done to them
I'm glad it's not every year, it wouldn't be anywhere near as good. |

I'm lucky as I have IPTV but I think a sky sports pass was approx £10 for the weekend/week.
Very good value for money.
It's a bargain around Christmas with all the football, rugby, cricket on. |

This is probably the same lady that has gone on to loose the sight in one eye.
She's going to sue the golfer or the Ryde cup I don't know.
Few reasons why even the golfer not shouting 'fore'. It's tragic indeed but I don't think your entitled to compensation if you want to go and look down the barrel of a golf club. |
