Phone book delivery

Just received a BT phone book through the post today and thought to myself

Has this now almost “no use now” also asking myself when the last time I used one and thought it was a waste of time posting it (and a waste of paper).

Probably most teenagers would be like “what the hell is this”

Is anyone else agreeing that it’s time to stop publishing the phone book.

As to be honest I put it straight into the recycling bin

Not everyone has access to the internet. You may not have a use for it but I’m sure that many elderly people who wouldn’t have a clue how to turn on a computer or smartphone will find it very useful

I know not everyone has access to computer or PC like the elderly i get that and I understand they find computers confusing etc.

I’m just saying is it not time to resign the phone book to the history books

I have a landline and 99% of the time it’s the dreaded “marketing calls”

(New window or kitchen installation or some stupid questions).

I have ended up pulling the landline out the socket months ago.

Somewhere out there

I used to love flicking through the pages, the smell of the paper, looking how many people had your name... obviously couldn’t afford toys when we were kids, had to find fun somewhere ha

That’s what I said I did with mine.

TBH please BT. By time 2020 comes can you resign your phone book permanently.

And save the time of some poor person from delivering it and for it to head straight to the recycling bin.

Yea. I remember doing stuff like this also when the phone book was the thickness of a dictionary.

Remember my mum/Dad had a “Glasgow south” phone book from about 1988 lying around for YEARS. And that was Thick.

when this new phone book arrived it was as thick as my mobile phone (with casing/cover)

Actually, a lot of older people do use the internet. And access is free in libraries etc.

Phone directories probably go out of date the moment that they are printed.

Yup, a friend of mine works for Yell, the last print one is/has just been delivered in the last week or so. Online only from there on.

They are tiny aren’t now aren’t they! No standing on them to reach things now or using them as a door stop...

A good majority of businesses would begin with A, or be named A1 or something so they’d be the first you saw ... the good old days

My mum (who's 80) takes an 'ironic photo' with her iPad, puts her directory straight into the recycling bin, then facetimes to tell me, and updates her status on Instagram.

*Not all elderly people are the same....

Not sure everyone gets the phone book now anyway - would it just go to BT customers? Just thinking I can't remember the last time I had one, but I've not been with BT for years.

The point is, not everyone has a smartphone, internet access or knows how to use freely accessible internet at the library.

My husband’s colleague is one of those people, he has never used the internet and wouldn’t have a clue how to start

Dont throw it out as there is probably more chance of meeting someone from the phonebook than on fab.
