Monthly Bin Collection
Jump to: Newest in thread
Is being rolled out in Conwy County. That is absolutely fucking disgusting and apparently the whole UK is moving towards collections every 3 weeks. Which means every 6 weeks because bin men are petty cunts and look for any excuse not to empty your bin until you're up at 6am chasing them down the road waving a black bag whilst you've still got morning glory.
Some people are determined to turn Britain into a third world-esq country. Can you imagine if you have a baby and that literally means there's a bucket of shit outside your front door all the time, albeit a bucket with a lid. Conwy County reckon they can save £390,000 by storing shit in front of people's houses. That's not even a two bedroom house in London, it's like a rounding error on a Diane Abbott figure.
Otherwise the weather is lovely, markets are doing well, back to Tom in the studio. |

"Im just happy to be living in Denbighshire "
If they try that round here then i will empty my bin in their fucking council offices. I know those cunts wouldn't change the bin size either. Literally people in Wales are burning their rubbish in the back garden. It's like we're going back to the dark ages (aka the 70's) |

Once a month that’s going to be horrendous, basically trying to force people to go to the tip themselves |

Thieves. It's organised theft. You pay for a service and then they scale it back. |

Actually i have just read a news article from June this year saying that Denbighshire CC was looking at the effectiveness of changing to monthly bin collections for general waste (household) but if they did they would have to make the receptacles twice as big to accommodate the extra waste. The report also says that recyclable and food waste would change to a weekly collection and a fortnightly collection of clothing and small appliances would be brought in..
Currently its a fortnightly collection, one week general waste, the next recyclable and food waste weekly so it looks like a better deal to me if they changed tbh .. |

"Ours is fortnightly.
We asked for a bigger bon and got it.
But apparently they want it three weekly across the whole UK
Let's riot"
Let’s barricade the council offices with bin bags full of decaying matter. |

Fortnightly here, alternating between normal and green waste, recyclables weekly, food weekly which I don't do.
It would be a nightmare going monthly.
Just wondering how many people recycle food waste? |

I’d like to have a smaller receptacle collected fortnightly during spring autumn and winter months and weekly during the summer months. It’s never going to happen though is it? |

Yeah of course I could walk there, with my heavy bags of rubbish - just what I fancy doing after a hard days work! It would only take about an hour an a half each way! Grand Talk about race to the bottom. It shouldn’t even be on the cards to discuss - it’s disgusting enough as it is. And that’s on a two weekly collection. |

Hour an and half jesus where do you live?
Like I say no family and friends?
At the end of the day the council have to make cuts somewhere due to the government so no matter were they make the cuts someone will moan about it, let's say they go back to weekly bin collections but they have to make cuts elsewhere which happens to be a council provided service that helps the elderly, disabled or kids in poverty and they massively suffer from this but it means you get your bin emptied once a week, would you be happy with that? |

Haha no chance I'm an engineer nothing to do with the council, I just think making cuts to bin collections makes more sense than making cuts to other more important departments/services |

My council have put stickers on our grey bins (general waste), telling us that food isn't rubbish and shouldn't be thrown in the bin; instead, use leftover fruit in your cooking (with a pic of a banana with a smiley face on it).
Must dash, I have a chicken and banana stew boiling away. |

Walk to the rubbish dump with 2 bags of rubbish?
I'll lob mine on the green at midnight then ring the council the next morning to complain about fly tippers |

My partner drives and of course I have family and friends. I wasn’t talking about me specifically, I said what if, like me you can’t drive.. it’s ridiculous to suggest people walk to the tip with their rubbish. That isn’t the point though. The point is, we shouldn’t even be talking about providing care for the vulnerable versus maintaining basic hygiene - we are a wealthy, first world country for gods sake. |

In my part of London Enfield council still have weekly collection except for grass / garden which are either fortnight or monthly. However the council has spent a lot of money on cycling lanes which I have hardly seen anyone use so who knows what they will do to our rubbish collections |

At end of the day...each council has to make cuts some where whether it be bins, services for children in poverty, disabled, elderly, repairing pot holes.....I could go on but me personally and my opinion which I am entitled to is that changing bin collection dates isn't even important compared to other areas they cut, doesn't even enter my head |

Ok so here’s my 2p worth, I don’t get a bin, when I moved here I didn’t know this, when I ask why they say because there’s nowhere to put one (it’s a terraced streetand I have no garden, there actually is a spot that others get to use but apparently not me and my neighbor for some reason) when I asked what I’m expected to do they tell me to go to the tip, I don’t drive and most of my friends don’t either, luckily there’s a commercial bin for some restaurants at the end of the road so I use that but if I get caught there’s a chance I can be fined, I’d prefer to have one myself even if it was only emptied every 3 weeks
As for cuts, they go on and on about these damn cuts and how someone will suffer consequences yet never consider cutting from politicians wages, how about we put politicians on min wage, that’ll save a fortune |

Thank you. You know nothing of who I care about. But living in a shit rat infested environment because the government deem basic sanitation fair game for cuts, when we live in one of the richest countries in the world is not my idea of great forward thinking. The fact that you fall for the bullshit that other important services will be cut tells me you’ll swallow any old shite, so I’d recommend everyone drops their rubbish around your house and as it will be piling up I’m sure you’d find a solution, as you said earlier.

Don't the government cut the budgets of each council not decide what the councils make the cuts to?
Asking for a friend
I think it would be great if everyone had a weekly bin collection but in all seriousness if the council sent out a letter saying to you that we can go back to weekly collection but another service will suffer and get cuts but it won't affect you in anyway would you agree? X |

I do recycle properly and try to throw away the least amount of food stuff too but I still have 2 bin bags of rubbish every week. I could squeeze in another-if they don't refuse to take a bin that doesn't have the lid closed properly. That would mean 5 bags of rubbish that wouldn't fit in my bin per month.
Even cutting down my rubbish by half that would be 2 and a half bags per month. Neither of us drives and I don't think tfl would take kindly to me taking them on the bus.

"Hour an and half jesus where do you live?
Like I say no family and friends?
At the end of the day the council have to make cuts somewhere due to the government so no matter were they make the cuts someone will moan about it, let's say they go back to weekly bin collections but they have to make cuts elsewhere which happens to be a council provided service that helps the elderly, disabled or kids in poverty and they massively suffer from this but it means you get your bin emptied once a week, would you be happy with that?
Do you work for the council cost cutting Division?
Haha no chance I'm an engineer nothing to do with the council, I just think making cuts to bin collections makes more sense than making cuts to other more important departments/services
That’s great news, stick to the engineering!
Haha have you heard you, stick to being offended by bin collections being changed and not caring about others less priviledged than you,
Very nice of you x
What a bizarre argument.
Please explain?
You seem to be implying that because we want our bins emptied in a timely fashion, we care less about those less privileged than us. Which I find bizarre. I’m not quite sure what else needs explaining?
It doesn't matter i think one way you think another way"
It clearly does matter to you, or you wouldn’t have asked me to explain. |

We have a fortnightly collection for each of our bins. It works well and most people on our street have a full recycle or general waste bin by the end of the fortnight. If somebody has an overflow they normal use a neighbours bin with agreement. If we went any longer then there would be black bags piling up and of course these days the bin men would not be allowed to lift them cause that would involve manual handling and the possibility of injury and a claim. we have a lot of old and infirm living on our street who don't drive we already put there bins out and bring them in so if the council would like to reduce our council tax we will organise our own Rota and take the rubbish to the tip ourselves but that will never happen |

"My council have put stickers on our grey bins (general waste), telling us that food isn't rubbish and shouldn't be thrown in the bin; instead, use leftover fruit in your cooking (with a pic of a banana with a smiley face on it).
Must dash, I have a chicken and banana stew boiling away.
My favourite meal. Never thought id find another chicken and banana lover." Chicken and banana korma... |

We have separate container for glass and food waste and and a
a plastic tin and paper bin.
Councils need to improve what they collect before collection cuts. |

I'm sure if you're that desperate to get rid of your rubbish you'll find a way...do you know anyone that drives I.e family or friends
Can you not walk there?
If the rubbish is Pileing up you'll find a way
Walk to the rubbish dump with 2 bags of rubbish?
I'll lob mine on the green at midnight then ring the council the next morning to complain about fly tippers "

We used to have a blue box for glass but they got rid of it. Perhaps they can't get anyone to recycle the glass. I'm going to get a compost bin when my garden is finished but I don't throw much food away. |

"What I don’t understand is people carefully separate their rubbish into different bins and they come along and chuck them in the same dustcart (not separated) "
When I lived in Nottingham they would often do this. We were very close to the waste incinerator which provided district heating for an entire suburb. If the incinerator was running low on fuel the bin lorries would come out and empty every bin and recycling bin on the street on any random day, not the designated collection day.
The amusing thing was that a few days after they had gathered their extra waste to burn, we would often receive a letter warning that they may fine you for leaving our bins outside the front of our houses on the little terraced streets |

Our local tip is only open about an hour a week. Bins get emptied fortnightly but the neighbour's bins are always overflowing before that. It's bullshit. |

Exactly. Every council is struggling because of government funding regardless of who leads the council they are chronically underfunded and having to make more and more cuts |

My mum used towelling nappies and I can assure you, had she had the choice, she would happily have used disposable. It's hard enough having a new baby without all that added stress. I think they are wonderful in theory, but not so much in practice. Not everyone will agree, but I think most will.

A) because Labour overspent for years

B) because they're cunts

We don't have a food waste collection. Our council wants us to use food past its best buy date (Which I do sometimes anyway) and use the fruit in cooking. |
