EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:
EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).
From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:
"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

Morning OP, bookmarking
Question for the FCRC-
For the last four runs that I've done, I've developed a stitch, same place each time about half way round my circuit.
I haven't changed my warm up, but guessing it's due to this??
Any ideas?
How do you guys/girls warm up before a run? |

So I disappeared for a few weeks but I'm slowly getting back in to actually moving.
Sadly on week 8 of C25k I fractured my foot spectacularly while out running. The 5k I had been working towards doing was out of the question.
So yes, I've not given up on it but paused it temporarily. |

People I suppose I am a bit self conscious about my belly.
I would love to try and reduce its prominence. It has gone down since lost weight. But still feel a bit sad bod like, especially in clubs
Just wondering if anyone has any gym type activities that I can help to try and get it down a bit |

I have to admit that I don't warm up before a run, unless it's a sprinting session (I don't cool down either). I rarely get stitches and I rarely ache after runs - unless I go too far. I also don't eat for at least an hour before a run - for parkrun I don't eat at all (then give me ALL the cake ) |

Been doing sprint and standard triathlons for 2 years now and I've recently signed up for my first Outlaw half iron (70.3) at Holkam next year. My training plan starts in 2 weeks and I'm now thinking WTAF have I done |

I'm really bad at warming up, if just a training run then I do a few streches then start of running slowly and build, before a race I'd take more time stretching (a mixture of static and dynamic) and about a mile job with a few sprints.
If you get a stitch carry on running but breath out, completely emptying your lungs |

This breathing does help, also when you breath in, breath into your stomach, sounds bit most people fill their lungs by expanding their chest but if you expand your stomach it exercises the diaphragm which helps get rid of the stitch. Warming up will help prevent muscle injuries but do little for your stitch. Also I don't eat too close to my run, I eat when I get back. |

Personally I don't know your issue, but as someone who struggles with a layer of fat that no one else sees I thought I'd have a quick look online for you.

Remember to look at diet too, although I'm sure you already are!

I've also heard of two other tips:
Run with your arms in the air (only when you have a stitch, obviously!) as that stretches your diaphragm and relieves the stitch.
Or breath out sharply and stamp your foot on the side which has the stitch. I've been told it does work! |

I’m still alive!! I was at the back but didn’t care & made a new friend. We’re planning on doing the other 2 weekly sessions together. I won’t pretend it was easy but our co-ordinator kept us going & I finished with a smile on my face!!! I’m so proud of myself x

8k done in two halves tonight.
Support ran our club run (slow and short group). The lady I was with wasn't feeling 100% so we cut short and did 6k. Then did a couple of k afterwards.
Felt nice to stretch my legs in the second run. |

Ummmm tbh I kept it under 4km and did only 13 mins on the bike so a total of 30’mins cardio
I normally do 40’mins - so I am at 75% |

To put into context - I'll do pace in k rather than miles:
Run 1 - average pace 8:30 per k (so 6k done in 51 minutes exactly)
Run 2 - average pace 6:34 per k (so 2k done in 13:12)
The longer distance you do, the slower you go.
Although when I was running regularly my 10k pb average pace was quicker than my 5k pb average pace. |

I'm still doing a run once a week but noticed I'm getting shin splints! Just taken delivery of some better running shoes so hopefully that'll sort things out!! |

1st 2.5km was at pace of 5.33 a km
2nd 2.5km was at a pace of 6.33 a km
Overall about 6 min a km for a total of 5km. Would like to do it with a 3 min breather in between but getting there slowly
Then done a 4km cycle after !!!! Boom |

Fastest parkrin fir over 2 years yesterday and finally back onside 25 minutes. More than a little chuffed with that after a shocker last week. Volunteering the next 2 weeks so hopefully another couple of weeks trainin will pay dividends later in October. |

I have the 210 {100 lumen} which I use for road running in the evenings, it's not bright enough or wide enough angle for trails imho
Not sure that the 210 will be good enough for under trees with a fairly narrow angle / spread.
I have a three bean torch for the darker conditions, bigger and heavier, but the beam is fantastic and only £15 on amazon |

I was about a stone and a half lighter than what I am currently and I was running about 27.30 which is the pace I done today for 2.5km at the 5.30 pace
Ok my second 2.5km felt a lot better at 6.30 - that means realistically I am probably somewhere sub 32.30 not sure how close to 30 mins flat.

Was looking at one in decathe on yesterday, around 15quid, rechargable and stupidly bright.
Am quite fancying the DECATHLON ONnight 410 V2 Running And Trail Headlamp 140 lumens for 20 pounds
I have the 210 {100 lumen} which I use for road running in the evenings, it's not bright enough or wide enough angle for trails imho
Not sure that the 210 will be good enough for under trees with a fairly narrow angle / spread.
I have a three bean torch for the darker conditions, bigger and heavier, but the beam is fantastic and only £15 on amazon

I would rather go lighter and dimmer, most of my route is pavements and streetlights, with the odd short alleyway.
