I’m a 53 year old lady who had a full hysterectomy four years ago. I have both my ovaries. My request for help is how will I know I’ve gone through or going through the menopause? I’m waiting for all the classic symptoms but there’s nothing...... other than I am experiencing extreme fatigue and am overly emotional. I’m hoping you lovely ladies will be able to share your own very varied experiences. TIA xx

Panic attacks, depression and anxiety. Crept up on me without warning, not forgetting the sweats lol

St John's Wart for depression and anxiety worked for me.

Sage for the sweats.

Both taken for two months every day. I'm fine now and rarely take these at all. If I have to, they would be on PMT week!

Bless you, that's a hard one, some people know they're going through the menopause, others don't. I haven't had a hysterectomy. Mine started at 49, with a change in periods, hot sweats, confusion. Was on hrt for a while, which helped. Pop and see your GP, they can do a blood test, to test hormone levels, not always accurate though. Good luck lovely.x

I've no word's of wisdom I'm afraid. I'm 51 and perimenopausel and under the hospital at the moment with them suggesting a hysterectomy. My periods and moods are all over the place with tiredness.

Anyway I just wanted to sympathise it's pants isn't it. I've started to take Menopace I'll see if this helps. I do go the gym which helps as well, cut back on your sugar intake.

Thank you. I was avoiding the GP as I really don’t have any symptoms that I’d attribute to the menopause. Thank you for replying xx

Then I wouldn't worry too much, you may just be lucky and sail through it. I wouldn't always advise hrt, I would probably go the natural route, in hindsight

Oooo I hope you get sorted out lovely. The hysterectomy was very welcomed and I haven’t missed my baby oven one bit. That’s it though.... I’m not experiencing anything! Can’t believe I could be one of those lucky women that just sail through it!! Many thanks for your reply xx

Fingers crossed you are then. I'm hoping I take after my big sister who didn't really get any major symptoms rather than my mum who has the sweats and everything.

I belong to a group on Facebook called menopause misery for some tips. I've stopped reading it though as it was so depressing and I'm praying to God I don't go the same route as some of the women on there.

I think if you're not having any major problems don't worry about it for now then. Just eat healthy and exercise, cut down in caffeine etc

I'm one of the lucky ones.

I have a lot more chin hair, a lot less pubic hair,I'm even less likely to suffer fools gladly, I meed to use lube and my episiotomy scar causes me problems. Compared to some that's nothing.

That's good advise! Yes everyone is different, they do say you tend to take after your Mum, but not always. My mum had a particularly hard time, but there was no hrt then and people didn't know about natural products either.

Look for moisturising lube rather than just normal and use it every morning would be my top tip .

Thank goodness these things are being discussed. I like the ad Jenny Eclair is doing for Vagisan because she's very matter of fact and conversational. Despite it being a cynical attempt to manipulate my buying habits

I keep meaning to buy some of that and then I see the price and keep putting it off. Why are medicinal creams and lotions so expensive. I have dry skin and have recently found a cream that's really good, but it's like £9 for a little tube that I could use up within the week.

I’m not having too bad a time on mine, my periods are erratic, I’m tired, depressed and just lately have started having night sweats, but not severe just like I’ve lit a fire inside. So compared to some I think I’m getting off lightly. But I do need to look into a lube as I’ve noticed I can be a bit dry down there. And my sex drive has gone up even more so not sure if that’s a good thing x

I've been peri menopausal for a year. I suffer from hot flushes, tiredness and weight gain. Plus I regularly get hormonal spots which make me so upset as my skin was always perfect. Unfortunately for me I am not allowed to take anything for it as I have a brain tumour. I asked my Endocrinologist if I could take St John's Wort, Sage, black cohosh etc as have heard they help but was not even allowed them. So I just have to deal with the symptoms.

I'm pretty sure you will know Op when you are going through it, unless you are one of the lucky ladies who just sail through.

Yeah, I think Vagisan is about a tenner. There are others but they're all expensive. I suppose we could try lard ...

Yeah I'm rocking the lard idea! I heard coconut oil with a few drops of tea tree oil is good, but it was so messy I didn't bother. My coconut oil had gone hard which it's supposed to do when it's colder and then you're to mix it and paste a tampon with it.

It was so bloody messy I threw it in the bin. I'll shop around for the vagisan methinks I can only find it for about £14. I sound a right skinflint don't I.

I’m due to have a hysterectomy in a couple of weeks and plan to conserve my ovaries, too. From my research and what my consultant says, having a hysterectomy with ovary conservation will shorten the timeframe of starting a natural menopause by about 2 years and expect it to begin within the next 4 years. So you’ll probably starting now or very soon.

Try a well known online retail site. £14 is a lot of money.

I wouldn't even consider coconut oil etc.
