The Bermuda Triangle in Suffolk |
Does anyone have experience of this when buying a used car? I don't know enough about cars and don't know a mechanic so what other options do you suggest? |

I’d say both are adequate but will probably come down to who’s cheapest but both will give the same service and I’d definitely recommend getting a professional like them to give the car a good once over |

The rac provide a report ,including hpi and any defects but I suppose its relevant to the price of the car . Personally with the way consumer law is now you have 3months for any defect not explained at the time of purchase .
If it goes wrong they have the right to offer a repair however you are entitled to money back.if unsuccessful . Stick to a reputable dealer and you will be fine |

Am not buying privately too many risks,seen a couple I like, both dealers and will be MOT'd if purchased. Have checked mot histories online and got a checklist of what to look for so hopefully as prepared as I can be. |

Commonly held belief that you have to give a seller the chance to try and fix a fault. Not necessarily true, Within the first 30 days if your purchase is of unsatisfactory quality, unfit for purpose or not as described you can reject it and get a full refund. After 30 days you only have to give the seller one chance to fix the fault, if it fails again you can reject it. Within first 6 months faults are assumed to have been there at time of purchase and seller must prove otherwise. After 6 months the position reverses and the buyer has to prove the fault exists.
Since Oct 2015 a consumer has lots of rights but even now 3 years later many sellers and buyers are unaware of them. Check out Which or Citizens Advice websites for an explanation. |

We bought a 5 years old car from a dealership a few weeks ago. The fact that this particular dealership puts every car they sell through an rac 128 point check was what made us go and look at this particular car rather than one similar which was being sold for the same price at another dealership.
We have a friend who is a mechanic, he services our cars and does any work needed. He came along with us and gave it a quick check over before we bought it. He has also checked it over just this morning too to make sure that all is still good now that we’ve had it a few weeks |

Sometimes you can call a garage close to where the seller is and ask them to do an inspection.
Rac and aa are expensive but you'd be able to knock the cost off the purchase price plus whatever needs doing so that's good.
But if you don't buy the car it feels like money wasted but really it's saved you lots |

Check the terms and conditions of the inspection.
They must have a gaurantee of their inspection so if there are any problems with it, then you have extra peace of mind, as they will be liable if the garage trys to shirk out of their responsibilities ? |
