After almost 20 yrs the makers of Big Brother have announced that their next series will be their last.

Do you watch it?

Or do you think its had its day?

How will they find the "celebrities" for any other competition show now then?

It won't be missed in this household....

I remember the first series in 2000: it was genuinely exciting. After that it was crap. As soon as the housemates knew it was a route to minor celebrity they just showboated ...

Not since season 3

"

I miss the seasons where they had reasonably sane and intelligent people that were relatable. After about season 5, they just filled it with a bunch of cartoon characters and cliches.

Didn't they say that last year as well? Maybe I'm mistaken, but I was surprised to see it starting again as I thought last year was the last one.

I won’t miss it.

I used to love watching it, but recently for civilian Big Brother they throw in wannabes from other reality shows & for Celebrity Big Brother they throw in people who are not celebrities & have only had 5 mins of fame.

It’s had its day!

The term 'celebrity' has been devalued like the Venezuelan bolivar fuerte. It wasn't like that when I was young.

Its about time!

The first 3 or 4 series were

quite interesting to watch but then

i disliked most of the house mates

after that and i stopped watching it.

I did enjoy the celebrity version more.

who will forget George Galloway

pretending to be a cat or Jack Dee

going crazy talking to those chickens!

I stopped watching it when they put argumentative people in instead of the Brian Dowlings. I still watch the celeb one as it's only on for a few weeks x

Watched the first few series before they started putting idiots and fools in for comedy value.

Completely painful to watch now, with the people they put in. The contestants all seam to me to be purely after the Z list celebrity status that comes with being on the show.

Shame really as the first few series were quite interesting, if not voyeristic, glimpse of a social experiment.

I take all that back. I just realised that tragic waste of carbon "bubbles" was season 2. I liked season 1. That's it. Although I admit i watched a bit of season 5.

I think some of the celeb versions are still a social experiment. Once they've got the really annoying ones out it can get interesting.

I don't usually watch the non-celeb version as they're not the type of people I'd like to watch.

A world all of his own

I watched a lot of the first one, it was innovative, really interesting to be that fly on the wall.

19 more series of the same thing was pretty pointless imo.

I don’t watch the regular one as they seem to all either know each other or have been on other reality shows but I find the celeb ones interesting. When they start to show themselves rather than their celebrity personas.

Do you watch it? - not since maybe the first 2 or 3 series

Will you miss it? - not at all

Or do you think its had its day? - It had its day years ago & I was surprised when C5 started it up again. I'd like to think that C5 will find something much better to fill the time with...

Only if they had individual rooms where they couldn’t see each other and were allowed their phones to log in here.

Watching the news last night, they have 3 years of planning permission for the site the ‘house’ is on so I imagine they are hoping for a ‘no, it can’t go’ response and bring it back for a 20th anniversary special.

Or maybe I’m cynical

The celebrity sesaons on channel 5 have had a far better mix than on channel 4 but civilian big brother on channel 5 has been terrible. The thing that's let it CBB down on 5 is that it's been caught being staged several times and they tend to gear the show towards who the producers want to win.

Instead of going for a mix of contestants with different life experiences/ backgrounds in civilian BB they put TOWIE/ Geordie Shore/ Made in Chelsea wannabes in there so you end up with a bunch of plastic 21-year olds who are a carbon copy of the group of housemates who they put in the year before and the year before that. They haven't had a decent or memorable winner since c5 bought the rights to it. If another channel gets it they need to think about what set it apart from other reality shows rather than trying emulate them. People don't just want to watch people in their early 20s who are in there because they're popular on their local clubbing scene.
