Arch bishop of Canterbury accused amazon for not paying its taxes and it’s been disclosed that COE has investment in amazon and a pretty big one.
So is Arch Bishop a hypocrite or he just wants amazon to pay its taxes while maintaining the investment? |

This begs the question as to why we're so surprised. I always thought hypocrisy was a fundamental principle of the Christian church.  |

Justin Welby certainly seems to be trying to bring various issues to public attention and bring about change. He recently spoke out about Universal Credit and its effects.
I hope he's trying to make changes within the church too. |

As a church only supported by about 10% of the English population, he could make a start by campaigning for disestablishment. |

I'll informed as well, I am not defending Amazon, but they pay (as I do) what the state asks them to, if they exploit laws, exemptions etcetera then it is up to the law makers to sort that out, not Amazon to pay more or the church. Same goes for Starbucks & so many more. |

The most recent surveys show only 40% of the population saying they are a Christian of any sort and only 18% attend a place of worship at least once a month. |

I don't see any contradiction to start with. If you don't like the way a company behaves then owning shares in it is one of the smartest things to do. Personally i wouldn't buy on a PtE over 30 so I think they are insane to buy those shares last year, but it's their money. |

Funnily it’s not the first time it’s happened. Few years ago arch bishop of Canterbury publicity criticised Wonga for there high interest rates and accused them of exploiting the poor for there shareholders, turned out CofE held shares in Wonga! |

Nothing wrong with criticising a business in which you have shares. Many investors do and have a right so todo. Where I part company with the Archbishop is the platform he used. The TUC is the Union arm of the Labour Party so he has now entered into Party Politics. As someone who sits in the Lords as 'Crossbencher' of the '2nd Estate' he should know better, and probably does, so this was a deliberately political act. So he is now fair game for criticism and I hope he gets both barrels.
Religious leaders have a duty to comment on moral and society issues. They should keep out of Party Politics or face the consequences.
And if we think his comments on Universal Credit just as Labour mount a campaign against it are a pure coincidence then we really are naive ...  |

Only 9.6% of private sector workers are members of a trade union compared to 67.4% of state funded jobs. I think trade unions need to be disestablished. |
