I don't have a problem with it per se. It looked like a lot of fun in a very controlled way and i guess it made plenty of money to boost English Heritage's coffers. What i do find interesting though is the amount of effort EH make throughout the year keeping tourists away from the stones only to allow this to happen. What you don't see is the amount of heavy traffic needed to transport all their equipment.
This threw me back to a time once when i went there for Summer Solstice. I was expecting a quiet, respectful Druidic ceremony only to find the place surrounded by burger vans and portaloos. A sea of litter and d*unks dancing on the stones and spewing in every corner. It reduced me to tears, something that doesn't happen very often. I was appalled, i tell you, if i'd had a machine gun i'd have shot every last stinking one of them. Instead i just left and i've never been back since. I'm scarred forever. |
