Now I really don't understand this subject, but where do they pick up swear words and why does it seem to only be swear words?

Are the family completely unblameable about learned behaviour, as I said I am completely naïve about it all but I do find it interesting about how it all manifests itself.

I know there are families on here that have children who suffer, how did it happen and how do you deal with it?

I do understand the 'tic's' side of things and some are just natural body reactions, as with any other condition, but where does the language come from? Especially in such young children

There are different forms of it, some people get tics only, some get the swearing only and some can get both. I have friends children with it, and it’s not something you can manage. These are perfectly respectable families, so the swearing isn’t something they use daily. It’s a compulsion x

That's what I mean, I don't think for one minute that the families swear constantly for one minute, so where is it learned? Why is it so prevalent? Why do they choose the words they do?

Vocal tics come in many forms - it's not always swearing, it can be any word or sound such as whistling. A person with tourettes can't choose which words or sounds become their tics, it just happens and they have no control over it.

Where do they learn the swear words? The same place all other children learn them. At school, the park, the supermarket, on the bus etc. Children can overhear bad language anywhere and they only need to hear a word once to learn it and repeat it.

That makes a bit of sense but not all but it is an enlightening documentary

There was a woman gave a talk about her tourettes on Radio 4.

A talk heavily laden with the word 'biscuit'.

That's Touretteshero! She's ace (I think her real name is Jess or something?)

A mate of a mate got Tourettes after a really bad car accident, and apparently he'd always say whatever was the most inappropriate thing to say right at that moment was. Almost like his brain was just trolling him...so for instance he'd be on a bus and a group of black lads would get on, and even though he was never racist before, he'd start shouting the N word, because it was the worst possible thing to say in the circumstances
