When I get a message and it says 'I know I haven't got a chance but I thought I'd try and send a message'...
This instantly turns me off and takes away if I might choose... Awww well, on to the next... |

it's a way of testing the water
some people like to dip the toe whilst others dive straight in
i like to get in as far as my knees - at least that way, you've made more of an effort, but just in case the waters cold, at least it hasn't got as far as me balls 
i know what u mean tho - it can seem somewhat defeatist which isn't very attractive |

Your right, it's not the best line.
But guys get told that ladies receive a 100 messages a day & that you mostly don't get time to read them all, so a closed mindset for some guys is understandable.
