I got up this morning and had a slice of Manor House cake (apologies to the anti-cake brigade) for breakfast.

After I ate it I wondered how many calories I had eaten, so checked the box.

895 kilojoules!

I almost dropped the box in shock.

I've just Googled how many calories in a Manor House cake and found that a one eight serving has

214 calories.

Relief

Note to self joules are not calories.

My problem with this is, who the hell eats one eighth of a cake!?

It's a bit crumbly for me; they didn't have any fruitcake in Morrisons

I should find out what joules and calories are.

I'll probably eat another eight later. If it was a fruitcake slab I would probably have eaten half of it already today.

Lucky you. I had a Slimfast Bar for breakfast and at coffee morning with my girlfriends today, whilst they were stuffing their faces with warm cheese scones and lattes, I had a black tea.

I need more "me days" and bloody oodles of cake.

I hope you are good lovely x

I don’t know how we equate that doing something so harmful to our health will make us happy .

But we do .

I did with cigarettes for 39 years , then had a heart attack and stopped after surgery saved my life .

Now I’ve put on over a stone in weight in the nine months since giving up . And I figure that I deserve that bit of cake as I’ve given up smoking ... how stupid is that ? Next thing will be another heart attack from eating too much crap food which has replaced the cigarettes . Why can’t I be happy with salad and fruit ?

I love salad, fruit and veg, but I'm craving sugar. Eating sugary foods makes me feel better in my head.

If your eating cake why would you read the calories seems kinda counter productive

To see how many I have left for the rest of the day. Although, at the moment, I don't really give a fuck, but I'm trying.

I had a roast turkey, tomato, lettuce and light mayo sandwich for my lunch and just had more cake for dinner.

I think I may be within my allowed calories for the day, but again, I don't really give a fuck.

I've done about an hour of solid walking today, in two half an hour stints, so I've walked some of it off.

I'm trying a little bit.

"I don't count the calories and thus I never get upset (Just fat)."

It doesn't upset me at all. I thought I should start looking at the calorie content of my snacks as that's my downfall.

I know substituting cake for meals isn't clever, but I have to do it sometimes.

Back to quinoa and veg soon

Just to give you some perspective, 895kJ is about the same amount of energy it would take to move a 10 stone person (assuming perfect energy conversion) about 1.5km
