Do you ever hear things on the radio and you think "Live in the real world and you'd know the reason isn't what you've just said.........."
On the way to work this morning they announced that the retail trade had increased .......... they put some of down to sales and the rest to more people having more money!!
Don't they know there are thousands of parents buying school uniform and shoes for kids to go back to school in the next week or so...........!! Of course that would have nothing to do with it!! |

Believe it or not… swine flu has also had a positive impact on spending.
I know it was Boots who reported something like a 10,000% increase in thermometer sales… all those folk heading for airports worried about arriving with a temperature and being refused travel helped that one.

Is that quarterly, though? I'm sure if it is that would be balanced by people being elsewhere for the past two months. However, I agree that for the time being, the only people that know how retailers are faring this "back to school" season are the retailers themselves. |
