"Talking to non fab friends recently and it seems everyone had a dabble in shoplifting as kids apart from me...
So did I miss out or is shoplifting overrated?
"
If you’ve never nicked a toffee crisp before you haven’t lived. |

I'll never forget being chased by security guards when I stole some hair scrunchies from bwise back in the day. I was so scared. Thankfully I didn't get caught as I ran through one McDonald's door and out the other side and off through the fields. My mother would have been furious had she known back then

"You just missed out in been a thief....
Saw a video once where a child in Saudi was caught stealing bread and he was held down on the ground while a jeep was driven over his arm."
Good thing they didn't introduce that for Woolworths pick and mix, they'd have been a whole load of one armed kids in Peckham....how the hell would they have got the wrappers off? |

I did a little when I was a kid, 3 or 4 times. It was mostly the allure of free stuff, I didn't particularly enjoy it. |

Yes my dad would have gone ballistic, which is why I never tried it I guess! Also we got good pocket money. |

It was ridiculous. Not even sure to this day why I did it. I knew it was wrong. I was aware how cross my mum would be. I felt guilty even whilst doing it. I didn't need them. I had cash.
Perhaps it was simply for the thrill. The exhilaration. Thank the Lord I have kinky sex and Fab to abate those urges now. I could have ended up a master criminal carrying out jewellery heists otherwise. |

It should be brought in here....as a deterrent. |

I've nicked a few bags of pick & mix & then went & flirted with the security guard.
We'd share the bag, he didn't know of course...then I got a job there a few years later when I grew up a bit.
I had one shift where I drank 2 cans of red bull before I started & I was flying through the shop.I consider that additional work, payback for the pick & mix |

Some of my friends wete onto it in their young teens. I think it was just as much about the thrill than the haul.
I tried it and just felt really guilty, so never bothered after that. |

"Back when I was at university i had some money issues so I occasionally stole food, but that was out of necessity rather than want. It was just like cheese or cup-a-soups."
Apparently, cheese is the most stolen food item from supermarkets. |

Worse thing was when they stopped hanging! Now we kept criminals in the lap of luxury at tax payers cost! |

A friend used to.steal pen knives, football stickers etc and swap them for items in our lunchboxes at primary school. It was only when I got older I realised he was doing it through genuine hunger. His free hot school dinner was probably his best meal of the week, it wasn’t for kicks but survival. I never stole anything but at the same time can’t judge anyone because I never needed too |

I stole a packet of rowntrees fruit gums and out of guilt of being recognised couldn't go in to my closest sweetshop for the rest of my childhood. |

"Nope never done it, I was brought up properly and have instilled the same values in my son. "
So you were literally a perfect child and never did a single thing wrong ever and your son is the same? |

To my everlasting shame, as a 9 year old at the time, yes i was part of a coordinated shop lifting raid on Woolworths All 2 of us stole a fishing reel and a packet of hooks.....................and got caught. I knew that my arse was going to sting that night as soon as the manager rang my dad. About 7pm that night those familiar words "you deserve this you little sod" followed by my dads slipper contacting my arse and the never ending stinging pain |

As a shop manager, I fail to see any glamour in shoplifting,it causes stress, can lead in the long term to job losses and any attempt to stop it can end in threats of,and actual, physical violence.Teenagers,13-17, are the worst culprits, no sob story about how they've had a hard upbringing can excuse it, particularly when someone ends up getting hurt |

That is a medieval torture that has been passed down through generations... |

Guess I wasn't bought up properly then.... Will make sure to tell my mum and dad what a shit job they did raising 3 daughters all of whom are gainfully employed, never been in any trouble with the police, 2 of which have degrees and the other worked her ass of while on maternity leave to get an accounting qualification to get a better job so she could provide for her son and later her daughter as well. All doing various things for charity too.

I did shop lift from out local village shop as a child. Why? Not sure. We had everything we could ever want. Guess it was just a peer pressure thing as my friends were doing it.
When my mum found out she sent scouts out around the village (no mobile phones back in those days!) to call me in and made me wait for my dad to get home. He worked nights but left work to come and reprimand us. He put us in the car and drive towards the local town, telling us he was taking us to the police station so we could tell them what we had done.
We cried and cried and promised we would never do it again as he turned back into the village. We were grounded and made to pay all of our pocket money to the shop owner for 2 months as well as going down to apologise to him in person. |
