I love tattoos but they have to be well done & original.
Someone who has all the same tattoo designs as everyone else doesn't strike me as the most imaginative sort.
I am a tattoo snob
I have almost 2 sleeves, a special tree on the back of my calf & a few old shite ones dotted around, slowly being lasered to be covered. I had no imagination when I was 16
New tattoo booked for 23/11...excited! |

Always wanted one but never found a design or tattooist I was confident about.
Do like them on women though as long as they are stylish and have meaning.
Too many people plonk designs randomly all over their bodies without a longer term plan.
I did know one American girl about 15 years ago who had a pale turquoise and gold serpent that started at her left ankle and wound around her body to end up on her shoulder - that was beautiful and felt really out there at the time - tattooing was still a bit backstreet in the uk back then |

With you 100%. Do they not notice that as things like a full/half leg tattoo march around on a summer's day they give the impression from anything more than a couple of yards away that the wearer has some terrible skin affliction (or are just dirty!)
Do the wearers never take a look at what happens when they get older?
Oh I know, a quick blast with a laser and there you are skin as new and smooth as a baby's bottom.
Yeah! |

None on you but ok on women? Hmmm.
You take the most beautiful form of creation and desecrate its skin with graffiti and say its been improved.
I've seen magnificent boobs on here absolutely ruined because somebody things adding Chinese flock wallpaper to them is somehow improving the view!
Sometimes you just despair for the human race.

I am a bit of a tattoo snob. Post David Beckham too many people simply get inked for the sake of it. A good example is a lad getting asked what tattoo he wanted. His answer was 'a sleeve'. He didn't want to get a tattoo prompted by a life event or anything for example, merely wanted it for the aesthetics. Didnt have a clue what design he wanted. Just wanted a sleeve. Note how many people get roses tattooed, or a clock, or religious imagery. I doubt these have any deep personal connotations but just following a trend in the tattoo world. I am judgemental regarding tattoos and prepared to be judged in return. People should get tattoos only for themselves. Even if other people might think it's shit. Which many are |

Only two of my tattoos have a personal meaning.
I can like tattoos purely for aesthetics.
Not every tattoo has to have some profound meaning.

Ok I should have expanded a bit. Not enough sleep! Aesthetics are fine if there is imagination shown. Personally I need my tattoos to satisfy both criteria in order for me to go ahead. My only tattoo which doesn't is my first ever tattoo which was from a flash design as was common back then. But it has taken on a new meaning these days meaning I'm a hypocrite lol. I better get a cover up...once I have summat with meaning thought of! |

I’m working on a massive piece at the moment covering the entire of my back (female half). It’s a cover up for one I’ve had done previously, it’s cosring a small fortune but is so worth it. I’m going to an award winning tattooist and planned it out over a long time. I’m back in next week for my next sitting and after that I’ll only have 7 hours left to sit |

Yes, usually. Though it depends massively on the tattoos, and the person they're in/on.
If they're pretty, then great (the tattoos that is), but if they're the 'Only God Can Judge Me' variety, then no. Just no. |

Yep... got a number of them. Most of my back is covered too; makes taking photos tricky!
Got a new one last month but it’s only small and discrete.
Love them on men.... especially on the chest, arms and back. |

You do realise that not everyone has them for others to gawk at? I couldn't care less about others opinions on mine, if I did I wouldn't have started having them nearly 30 years ago. They were not to improve anything, I got them because I wanted them, nothing to do with fashion or because my friends had them, because they didn't. The main difference between people with tattoos and people without is that people with tattoos, don't care about others lack of tattoos. I am not a fan of the fashion tattooed tho. Oh and I have never had one removed! |

I have none. I know I’d get bored or regret it.
However on other people I love them, both men and women. My cousin has half a sleeve and it really suits her, I just couldn’t get one myself ever! |

Back from a 6 hour sitting today with a few more hours left to finish it in a couple of weeks.....7 with that one but had 11 in total, a couple of cover-ups and add ons.
Today was on my thigh and my tattooist offered a full leg sleeve at a very cheap price with sittings at tattoo shows but I've decided to just have this on my thigh and i have another planned for my other thigh |

No! My back one took between 11am and 6pm with nothing to eat to do
The tattooist was relatively new to his own business so was vary conscientious about doing a good job. It was meant to be a lot bigger and coming over my hips etc but when it was drawn on, it was too big for my body frame to carry it off so it was cut in half (thank god) |

'Tis a bit but that's ok. It's a pocket watch laying among wildflowers, and some words.
I want it in the good ol' tramp stamp area, but haven't had it done because of the fact that's where I want it |

I accidentally had a sleeve on my right arm (never planned it to be so large) which is primarily Escher inspired. Lost track of how many hours work, think it was around 18 as lots of detail
4 on my right arm which will also be a sleeve once I've saved some more cash, probably start on it next year. But will be more colours and shading and far kess work rather than the detail on my right arm
Next one will be a leg piece done by the singer of punk band Ferocious Dog and be some of their band artwork |

My back piece was supposed to be 8"x6" to cover one I had done on my shoulder on my 20s.
I went to see a friends husband with my original drawing, took my top off to show him the old tat
"Hmmmmm, you've got really broad shoulders and such a long back, we could do something really special with this"
15 minutes later, my back was brightly adorned with sharpie lines... And I knew it was perfect.
25hrs so far, still one last piece to shade.
Then we start the next one, on my other thigh. |
