So if you ate a Christmas pudding tonight that was at the back of the cupboard, would it count as the last pudding of last Christmas or the first pudding of this Christmas?

No. Last time I bought one the guy asked me 'are you going to put it up yourself?' I said 'No, I'm putting it in the lounge you dirty bastard!'

I didn't say I ate it all, I mean my friend didn't.

How did you know it was brandy sauce and not custard?

I’d say it was the last of the last because I assume it was in your cupboard before the last one? (Even though technically it was in your cupboard before the next one too).

Lucky you Estella. It would usually be custard but tonight's was served with brandy sauce. Unfinished brandy sauce.

Last Christmas- then you can play Wham! while you eat it.

If it was this Christmas you would be premature!

As long as the packaging is still sealed, it smells ok and it hasn't gone mouldy it will be perfectly good to eat as long as you steam it properly. The alcohol should enable it to be preserved.

I noticed today that my local Tesco has got a small section in the cake aisle filled up with Christmas puds and mince pies and they have a few pallets of sweet tubs by the entrance.

Longridge

My first microwave Chrissy pud was interesting.

1996 and mums first microwave oven. Proudly unpacking the pudding and putting into the brand new £700 panasonic digital displayed gizmo.

Setting it off then joining us back in the lounge. Around 25mins later I asked about the pudding and curious that the oven was still running.

Running into the kitchen hearing cracking and banging, opened the door and carefully removed it.

Taking the lid off caused a sudden inrush of Oxygen it burst into flames.

Pudding ended up launched out the back door and kicked like a firey fireball up the drive.

Turned out she'd set it for 3 hours and 50 mins and not 3 and a half..

My grandmother always put silver sixpences in the pud. Started making the pud and Xmas cake around this time of year. Started by soaking the dried fruit in alcohol for a couple of weeks.

Christmas puds improve with age. The alcohol preserves the fruit and they mature like a good wine,
