I've always been drawn to certain lyrics in songs, for no obvious reason really.
For example, I've always liked the line "I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like" in I Am the Resurrection |

Some of my (hubby) favourite lyrics tend to be more unusual ones.
Hot dogs, jumping frogs, Albuquerque (Prefab Sprout)
I love you from the bottom of my pencil case (The Beautiful South) |

Good lyrics mean a great deal to me, I can’t stand pop music as the lyrics are usually terrible
Elbow-The Night Will Always Win
I miss your stupid face, I miss your bad advice.
Foo’s - Everlong
Breath out do I can breath you in, hold you in |

There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you |

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you |

"Do good lyrics matter to you in a song...? Any favourite lines?"
Very much so. One of my all time faves is this from Fleetwood Mac:
"I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to"
Such a pure unadulterated level of arrogance that a snarling Liam G could only dream of reaching.
Paul Heaton's written some brilliant lyrics too. He has a great way of being humorous while at the same time getting a serious point across. One of England's finest but rarely seems to get the credit, just not fashionable enough I guess. |

"Do good lyrics matter to you in a song...? Any favourite lines?"
Yes.
This one comes at the end of Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street
"Anne, with her father, is out in the boat, riding the water, riding the waves, on the sea." Such haunting words. Much better sung live, I was there in Nimes France 1993 amazing! |

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate if you're clever and despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear |

Yes,
" it wasn't the beatings that made me wise"
" I've been twisting and turning in a space that's to small,
I'll show how I'm feeling until all the feelings have gone " |

He did a bicycle tour around 5 years ago, just went round country pubs on his bike, lol. I first saw him way back, with The Housemartins, another underrated venture of his.
I missed the National Trust gigs he did a while ago with Abbot, I bet they were stunning. |

I have always listened to music but never really heard it. Some music just is. I recently built playlist of songs I consider to have the best ones. It’s playing now.
‘Cause when you never see the light, it's hard to know which one of us is caving‘

Most of the clean faces be the most dirty
I just need a thoroughbred, cook when I'm hungry
Ass all chunky, brain is insanity
Only things that calm me down, pussy and some Cali tree
And I get both, never truly satisfied
I am happy, that's just the saddest lie

Oh totally! Lyrics always matter!
Calm down don't you resist
You've such a delicate wrist
And if I give it a twist
Something to hold when I lose my grip

Spent 24 hours
I need more hours with you
You spent the weekend
Getting even, ooh ooh
We spent the late nights
Making things right, between us
But now it's all good baby
Roll that Backwood baby
And play me close |

Overhead the albatross
Hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyrinths of coral caves
An echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine |

I saw her on Monday, twas my lucky bun day
You know what I mean.
I love her each weekday, each velvety cheek day
You know what I mean.
My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights
Big game's waiting there inside her tights. |
