Obesity II seemed less judgemental than the first thread, let's keep it that way.
To summarise: some people perceive a healthcare professional's approach to obesity to be judgemental. This may be due to a personal reflection of self-judgement/ sensitivity of issue, or a lack of diplomacy/empathy by the professional. How can a patient reduce their sensitivity and can a professional highlight their objectivity, ie this is what is happening, what could happen, what should happen, but it's patient choice?
How can we all view obesity differently for societal change to occur? Almost two-thirds of the adult population are overweight, almost one-third is obese (60% and 27% respectively) - horrifying statistics, especially considering how nearly all obese people will go on to develop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and therefore high risk of cirrhosis. Cirrhosis will no longer be seen as just the curse of alcoholics.
Appreciating obesity has multi-factorial causes, how can we help/support ourselves and each other? |

I think the best way to support would be to acknowledge that obesity is more than just calories in and calories out.
Until we stop judging our family/friends/colleagues and supporting them instead - even of they don't realise you are even doing it - then that would be beneficial to all. |

Have to totally agree - it's definitely not just calories in and out, a message I've reiterated from the first thread.
A good idea would be to never buy chocolates or cakes as gifts for others (unless it's me and you buy green and blacks dark chocolate with orange - dark chocolate in moderation ).

"Is this going to be like Fast and Furious, is there going to be a ‘Talking about Obesity Vll’ ?"
Out of curiosity, were you ever told "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?"
If you don't like the thread, don't post in it. |

Obviously wasn't that clear as it went over my head. I could only see another dig at the thread. As you have done on the last two. |

People were opening up, why not give more the opportunity? If more do, it'll educate us of their experiences and we can support them and each other. One day you might find yourself in their position. |

Having observed your previous tones on these threads, it was, at best, sarcasm. |

I’ll leave it there. But I will say I have nothing but respect for people who are trying to turn things around with regards to there weight. I have the opposite problem, I can’t put weight on, I cycle a lot and I regularly see this larger lady out on her bike, I’ve chatted to her a few times and I’ve got nothing but admiration for her. |
