Your profile has your location
Jump to: Newest in thread
Okay I’ve seen this on a lot of people’s profile (mainly single women) but on their status it would say something like away, or out of town, or on holiday so cannot meet. But thinking all dudes/guys are gullible and just accept it. But they’re using their mobile to log in and probably not noticing that their location is on and you can see how far you are from each other from your mobile on your profile.
So why do people use this basic lie. It makes you look silly when caught out.
Have you ever told that lie before or been told this. If you have let me know |

"I don’t have location on or ‘who’s near’ and I don’t give my exact area. You may call it a lie and that’s fine but in my opinion it’s safety first and I like being vague "
Nobody is saying safety isn’t an option. I full on agree with it. And if you don’t want to show your location is fine aswell. Most people want to be discrete. But the blatant lie is which I don’t understand. If you don’t want someone stalking or continue messaging you to meet. Isn’t there a block button. I maybe naive in saying this but don’t a lot of people use it to stop people messaging? |

I believe they do yes. This won’t stop someone creating a new profile if they are that way inclined though. |

There are three types of "location" on this site. One which is manually entered and doesn't have to be an actual place, one which is set according to the postcode/location entered on your profile and the mobile location (which only works if you have "who's near" on).
So, looking at your profile, it says:
50+ miles away
(60+ driving)
Right now:
They are on mobile, 50+ miles away
However, mine (should) just say:
50+ miles away
(60+ driving)
Even if I go to London, it will always say that I'm 50+ miles away from you. |

She may have been lying for safety reasons. You may know how safe you are. We don't |

"So are we saying lying is okay just for women. "
Nobody is obliged to tell you where they are. I wouldn’t tell anyone on here exactly where I am at any given time. If you’re bothered by it then perhaps she’s not for you? |

My location is off a wee bit, as I don’t want all the locals seeing me straight away.
And if I’m super duper bored, I’ll change my location, click ‘see who’s near’ and check out the talent in other areas of the UK
My profile does state I’m in Scotland though |

"So are we saying lying is okay just for women.
No, some of us were trying to explain why some of us lie about our location."
One of us seems to have misunderstood the op?
I think He is saying
He lives in x
He does a profile search for ladies whos profile says they live within 20 miles of x
They have written on their status they are 300 miles away from x at the moment
Their mobile location has been left on and it shows them to be within 20 miles of x
There are indeed a thousand good reasons for this and it matters not but safety is obviously NOT one of them as they have left the least safe mechanism on fab on which is an approximate real time declaration of their proximity
Even saying it isn't correct all the time is is still a great possibility it is
The op is noting that they seem oblivious to the fact their real location is possibly being declared and that this information means he can see the ladies being untruthful which he then uses his according to fab forums always right gut instinct to avoid the possibly treacherous women
In short just as many women find a man who cannot accommodate as suspicious he notes that a lady who is lying for some reason which is obviously not safey an does not have the wit to switch. Off her mobile location is also worthy of suspicious disregard by his gut xxx !

exactly what I was trying to get at. Thought everyone was on this page. I’ve been honeytrapped in the past before (if don’t know what it is google it) but just saying it’s ok to lie |

"Why are you so bothered by it? If you're taking that much notice of a woman's profile and monitoring her whereabouts it says more about you than the woman. "
Sure does
This makes you sound a bit stalkery OP |

No it does not !
If one is a member the distance shows automatically if the user has left on their mobile location, it's blatantly obvious
The op is very very very simply and not in any stalker way or even a rude way just noting that
An observed discrepancy on a profile makes his gut instinct regarding the person behind the profile a little suspicious
It's a perfectly reasonable comment |

It's also not nice when the GPS does screw up and someone ends up having a shit fit on you for 'lying'
I spend time in Scotland, while I was there a guy from my home area messaged me, wanting to meet I explained where I was.
He swore blind I was lying as the GPS told him I was 15 mile away.... I suggest people get less hung up on locations, it just causes hassle nobody needs.

It’s not always right, someone I chat to and know personally was showing as 1.5 miles away when he was in Las Vegas really! He was using a VPN so his phones location was just a bit wrong |

God forbid you don't turn off mobile location or make an impulsive decision to go out somewhere other than stated on your profile for fear of someone accusing you of lying about your location. The only way this can effect any other person is if they are actually in contact with someone and have agreed to meet at a specific time and place and that person suddenly appears 300 miles away. If that's the case just except it isn't going to happen and move on. |

I would just accept if they say they cannot meet, then they cannot meet. I wouldn't dig around and try and find out why. My mobile location is switched off so presumably even if I am a 100 miles away it will still say I am here ?

I agree.
Far too many on here want to know exactly where you are and when you don’t tell them you’re automatically a liar and a fake.
I had my Who’s Near on out of curiosity before and forgot to turn it off, the amount of guys that were messaging when I was out stating they’re half a mile away, and naming streets asking if I lived on them was quite scary.
Many people don’t put their true location for safety & discretion reasons. I don’t see an issue with that. |
