Government looking at banning sales of energy drinks to those under 16....

Should they???

See I am split....

“Full” versions of these drinks..... yes

“Sugar free” versions of these drinks.... no

See the argument is the level of caffeine and sugar in these drinks.... sugar free takes out argument 2 , and a can of red bull contains the same amount of caffeine as a same sized cup of coffee

So.. what thinks the masses

It's more about education and parental control....we shouldn't need government intervention.

Don't give them to five year olds is all I would say but at five lots of kids are given sugary tea.

Educate, educate, educate. Make it compulsory to put energy drinks in plain , undecorated cans. Don't portray energy drinks as something that can give you magical powers. Make it obvious to people that sugar is bad for you.

I can't see it working myself but its all I've got. Also if you ban them something else will rise up to take their place.

they should be banned full stop and it should be made compulsory that kids drink spa water....... Makes sense to me....... Speed kills we've been made to accept speed cameras........ Bad diet kills let's make it a legal requirement we eat healthily

Tesco already do. Yet another thing that delays me at checkouts. I once saw a woman yelling at her kid for being naughty in a shopping centre. He was about 7 and had a huge can of Monster in his hand.

There was a report on these drinks done a while ago, apparently you can be come sterile through drinking too much of them. According to the report, it reduces the sperm count in men.

I don’t drink these so-called energy drinks and neither do my children and they are over 16

You don’t actually need them as you gain enough “energy” from a proper diet...

Just marketing nonsense to make us drink liquid sugar....

My local co op and lidl don't sell them to the under 16's.

I don't allow my youngest to have them.

I drink them only when I need a boost on a late night at work.

I don't know whether I'm remembering this wrong but I swear when they first came around, you couldn't buy them unless you was 16 because of the high caffeine content. I find it really odd when I'm working at schools and I see all these young teenagers walking around with their Starbucks in the morning. I'd have never thought about having a morning coffee when I was younger. Why do they even need a caffeine boost, school was a piece of piss and not tiring at all. If they need a boost at that age, entering the real world and the work place is going to be a huge shock for them

Having gone vegetarian trying to go vegan. Diet is essential for running for a bus

We feed kids fast goods. They get fat and adults obese from eating from a fat and sugar diet. Still I just ate a mars bar... A Mars a day helps you work rest and play

I never started drinking coffee until my 20’s. A teen simply shouldn’t need it. Whether they want it because of the way they are marketed is another matter I suppose

A lot of polls suggest that many school age kids are up late at night on social media, gaming or watching box sets, films or shows. Hence why they need a stimulant to try keep them awake

I don't even know how people can drink multiple big cans of the stuff, it tastes vile! If you cut caffiene right down or completely you'll find you start to have far more natural energy and will sleep better. Caffeine withdrawal can be grim for a couple of days though.

They should put an age limit on them and have a serious look about what's in them. Also the packaging....They are geared towards kids. No need for kids to drink them full stop. Even ones that are really active. Water should be more than enough x

I think the problem is that people don’t actually know what these things do to their bodies; the rush and subsequent crash from drinking them and the stress it puts on your body.

Healthy food, a healthy diet and exercise gives your body all the energy it needs to function properly and well.

Having suffered bad health issues from drinking redbull I would definitely ban the sale to under 18’s.

never had the same health issues from drinking coffee.

Yeah and most supermarkets they need to show I.d too and it’s a good idea, there’s too much obesity in the country and isn’t good for people and kids will grow up with health issues and that’s going to be more strain on a already crippled nhs.

yeah they need to go out and do stuff and drinking them cans it’ll be cheaper to buy a bag of sugar!

If we were to stop all things deemed detrimental to our health we might as well never leave the house.

Hiding in the shadows

I normally wouldn't touch energy drinks, but I've got a long drive today, so picked up a couple cans of Monster in Tesco yesterday, just as a back up in case I get stuck on the motorways.

Had to wait for an assistant as now have to be over 25 in there to buy it.

I was even asked if it was for my son, 14, who was with me

Personally I think it's great they do this

School might have been a piece of piss for you, but that doesn't mean it is for everyone!

My youngest has special needs and school is exhausting physically and mentally. Still wouldn't give them energy drinks though.

Should be banned. Kids shouldn’t need extra energy. Your body adapts to the extra boost so you always need more great for drinks company bad for long term health

We don't allow our children to drink them, just as we wouldn't allow them to drink coffee. My body suffers when I've had too much caffeine (palpitations/headaches etc) so I figure if it's doing that to me as an adult, how overwhelming must it be for a child sized body. Children have enough energy as it is
