Mine lasted 7 yrs and 364 days whilst my parents were just a few months short of their golden wedding anniversary..
So in my experience no, it doesn't last like it used to |

Mine lasted 12 years, I think that there is a social expectation to get married and have the ‘package’. I got married quite young and looking back I was reacting to what others wanted rather than what I wanted. |

Hope so.
We’ve been married a year and a half an our first year of marriage was the worst year of my entire life. We went through so much that could tear any couple apart, yet we faced everything together and it never once crossed our minds to leave. I like to think that if we can survive that, we can survive most things. |

Working values have changed. Family values are still the same I think.
The woman now has much pressure to earn for her family as much as the man did ‘in the olden days’. So maybe (just maybe) that takes away her focus of looking after the house and family.
(It’s just a thought, as I’m making a cup of coffee, don’t turn this into a sexist argument)
Some maragies rely on love, some in power (and other things) so maybe it’s the power in relationships that have changed. |

We’ve been married a while
We’re still very happy.
If one of us isn’t happy for any reason we talk about it and find a solution.
This is where some modern marriages go wrong, communication. |

I was married 16 years and with that person for 26 and unfortunately it didn’t last but ultimately because he didn’t want to put the effort into fixing it, which I think is often the case these days....
So now making up for being with 1 person for so long, and letting my hair down! |

No and I think that's a good thing. I'm the old days woman stayed with men who treated them like dirt. My first husband was violent to me, I left when I feared things were getting worse- in the old days I would have been expected to stay |

I know my marriage would have a greater chance of lasting if she would agree to join me on this site like what woman in her right mind would turn down the chance of enjoying two cocks at once pleasing her |

Most people are too quick to give up nowadays, its easier to give up and walk away than to stick at it for another 20yrs, often a lot of old couples end up hating eachother in the end and its because they chose to stay together as back in the day divorce was frowned upon. This is why I dont believe in marriage, if your in love then your going to be together anyways married or not so why bother adding the extra hassle of marriage when the inevitable happens and you have to go through the mess of divorce. |

No it's changed days. Everything was more simple then. Husbands and wives knew their place and most of the time you worked hard just to get by. Families were close knit and looked out for each other. Too much freedom and choice now x |

There used to be massive social stigma about being divorced and until about fifty years ago it was legally quite difficult to get divorced. Added to that that until comparatively recently most married women were totally financially dependent on their husbands.
Basically, people didn't used to stay in unsatisfactory marriages because they were willing to work at them, but because they (especially women) had no choice. |

My marriage was like that in the early days, but 15 years later we grew apart and separated.
In reply to the OP, I think our parents and grandparents weren't able to leave relationships as easily as we do now, and people are less willing to settle for being stuck in a humdrum/bad relationship today.
Some do last of course, and I sometimes wish mine had but I'm also glad I had the opportunity to move in when it was clear it was no longer right for us. |

Most people my age that I know who got married in their 20's are not with that person anymore.
My grandparents are in their 80's and still strong together, my parents were married nearly 40 years until my dad died a couple of years ago. |

I think it depends on whether you’ve met “the one” you soulmate...
If you look at grandparents for example.. the age of death now adays has significantly lengthened... so I think that maybe a factor, my grandparents were together till one died (many years ago),
my parents were together for 30 years (my step dad and my mum) obviously not a good match first time round with my dad..
I have been with my hubby for 23 years now (married 16) .. we had love at first sight.. we still manage to make eachother laugh everyday... don’t get me wrong, every relationship has its ups and downs, we are all human after all...
But I guess it all depends on the choices we make and whom your heart falls in love with |

We’ve been married for ever, we still argue, we still wind each other up and could happily kill each other now and again. We also love each other, laugh together and enjoy each other passionately. |

This is why I am scared and anxious to marry. I don't really see any healthy relationships around me (they are probably happy ) but this is what happens when my mates do have a moan about their othwr halves etc. I do think people my age still feel marriage a sort of pressure to marry and life will all be good. I just worry about the loss of excitement and how resentful or bitter it can get. Also loss of myself or independance lol ah my brain. For now, being on my own is the right thing. |

They don't and as others have said, it's often easier to leave than work at it.
I guess we live in a throw away society now and some see marriages that way |

I think sometimes there's too much water under the bridge and if you've fallen out of love with someone for whatever reason, is working at it ever going to recapture the feelings before whatever issues you had, or is a clean slate with someone new more likely to lead to happiness? |

When I said til death us do part I meant it. He didn’t. Together nearly 20 years but married for just under 7.
Frank & I marry soon & we’re planning on it lasting until death!!
My parents divorced & re-married other people in the 1980’s - both couples been married over 30 years.

Sometimes still the case today though. |

Why do you believe it will be together forever this time? Serious question. |
