Like net curtains? It's rife round these parts.

It phased out as people found new decor appealing, just as quick to get vertical blinds these days and no washing of net curtains anymore

I blame the French woman - Venetia Blind.

Mind you, if it wasn’t for her it would be curtains for us all.

TO CLARIFY THE CONFUSION...

By netting I actually mean a very thin net cover inside the window that prevents bugs, flies and spiders from getting in.

Dunno, maybe we didn’t think we needed them as not a hot enough climate.

I have 1 on my daughters window, she is terrified of moths. This way she can keep her window open and the light on and there is no screaming.

Aye! Moths, spiders, mosquitoes!

I had a bloody mosquito flying by my ear the other night when I was trying to sleep!

I have them in all my windows on all 3 floors, as i want privacy with daylight not gaps where people can clearly see in from blinds, or none installed, so when you walk past the house you can see every item and them if in the room.

Even after i purchased them, my neighbours installed them aswell, new build area, not rifraf people.

somewhere in the Shire of Derby

I bought some for my place to stop the bugs getting in during the hot weather. They're great, also means my house cats can get lots of fresh air too.

I don't know why we don't have them. I'd hazard a guess that until recently we rarely got warm weather for long enough to have the windows open.

50's 60's and 1970's style window covering much favoured by aunts and grannies of the time.

Hence gave rise to "net curtains twitching" when nosey neighbours wanted to see what you were up to.

If you look out of your window and a majority of your neighbours have net curtains...chances are you're living in a retirement village!

"It's so convenient!"

Because most UK windows are pretty intricate and don't open so loads of dirt would collect between the screen and the window, yuck.

"Blinds are cooler"

Compared to nets yes, I like curtains because I like an open expanse of window to look out of.

We have voile panels, can see out, harder to see in (unless lights are on)

Get some spider away and spray on your frames of windows and doors every couple of weeks

Because I'm not a pensioner. I think it's mostly the more senior of the population who still use net curtains.
