After paying BT over the odds for far too long for our landline and broadband i've finally gotten off my fat lazy arse and switched to a much better deal.

Now i find that i will have to pay them £7.50 a month each to keep my btinternet email addresses (i have two). They don't tell you that when you switch providers.

If you know anyone else that has Bt broadband or premium mail, apparently there's a trick workaround. So long as you and they are in agreement, you can ask bt to transfer your email address to be one of their free 10 emails that they get with bt.

Otherwise, yes, the barstewards are thieving arseholes!

"Get a new email address. "

I can probably do away with the personal one but the one i use for business purposes is far too entrenched in all kinds of official nonsense. It would be very difficult to make sure any change over is guaranteed to go smoothly. Plus i'm incredibly lazy.

port talbot

Call them and say your leaving , I did that and was offered 12 months @£1.50 a month.

Needless to say I will be leaving the robbing bar stewards after the time is up.

This just gives me time to inform everyone of my new gmail address

At least you can change your provider...

I'm paying £38 quid a month for broadband and can't even get fibre

Is that really such a surprise as btinternet is a domain owned by BT so if seems obvious that if you want to still use something owned by BT than they will want to charge you for it.

Set yourself up with a gmail or yahoo email account. These will then be domain independent regardless of your internet service provider...

For £7.50 a month I'd keep just the business one.

I wonder if there's an email switching service online. Similar to switching bank accounts.

Never understand why people use BT / Virgin / Sky etc for their emails...especially for business use. For a start, Gmail/Googlemail is free and easily accessible, and secondly, for a few quid a year, you can buy your own domain name and have your own personalised email addresses.

Why tie yourself into a contract with a company that knows they have you by the short n curlies once you start using their add-on/secondary services?

This. Only use transferable email addresses or get your own domain, very cheap and easy

I swapped mine 2 years ago and I still have and use my BT email address for free, I received the same letter and ignored it
