Inspired by a comment in the lounge last night where a poster stated that they appreciated having their spelling mistakes pointed out to them on the forum, because they learned from it.
I had always assumed that people wouldn't appreciate the gesture.
So, are you ok with having spelling and/or grammar mistakes pointed out to you, or do you think it's rude/annoying? |

I guess it would depend on how it was done, I'm dyslexic so I often don't notice any mistakes.
A nice pm would be OK but to humiliate or put down on a thread wouldn't go down well. |

I should imagine most people reply on a phone these days and we all know that autocarrot likes to fuck around with us, it doesnt really need pointing out to us that the phone thought it knew better |

"I don't understand why anyone would want to point out others spelling mistakes. Unless they've posted something slagging off someone else's spelling, then they're fair game! "
This for me too |

In general I am happy to hold my hand up when I am wrong about something but in this context I find those who jump on people's grammar / spelling in the middle of a topic unrelated to grammar / spelling are just plain annoying. I mean why do it? Often its to deflect away from the subject or to look 'rather' clever'. |

I think it’s pedantic , and it pisses me off when the spelling/ grammar police step in with their higher than thou attitude . |

Autocarrot! Love it! Will use this from now on...
I love correct grammar but would not correct someone else’s as I find it’s rude to. You wouldn’t stop someone mid conversation and correct the words they chose- so why do it via a computer?

It was me that posted that in the the thread.
It depends on how it's done, but I'd hate to be using a word (or its spelling) incorrectly and thinking that people were laughing at its usage when it could be corrected.
The OP of that thread I wouldn't mind (and that was the context I was writing in) and a few others. Others would do it as a mean dig and so wouldn't be welcome. |

I completely understand. I meant to say something in the OP about the way in which it was corrected. |

I'd never be so rude as to point out someone's spelling mistakes. It does make me rage inside a little when it's on Facebook and is people who sat in the same English lessons as me in school though! |

Its obvious most spelling mistakes are just from quick typing, auto correct and the like. To have it pointed out seems a bit silly.
If I was continually using a word wrong, it might be helpful to have it pointed out via pm, but would still make me |

I do have to admit that I hate some posts I see and think, "can you please use some full stops and extra paragraphs please!"
But, because I know my spelling and grammar isn't perfect (and you can tell which are autocarrot mistakes, and which aren't) I wouldn't correct. |

I will admit to thinking that too! |

i sometimes find the grammar police very annoying its sometimes fun to deliberately do bad grammar just to wInd them up but i dont care if someone does spelling mistakes or dosnt put full stops or Comers in if can read what it says and i can understand it . |

Sometimes times I unfab it then fab it again if I'm trying to catch their attention, success rate is zero but a man has to have dreams |

A woman near me used to always spell queue wrong in here status updates, she would put something like ‘Big cocks to the front of the cue !’ Etc
After months of this I messaged her and said it’s ‘queue’ not ‘cue’.
Her Next status update was ‘Typo knobheads to the back of the cue.’

It makes it easier to understand. I'm not a fan of reading a post half a dozen times trying to decipher it.
A panda eats, shoots and leaves.
A panda eats shoots and leaves.
Same words, two completely different meanings. |
