So....just for research purposes I'm wondering how many people would be prepared to meet someone, social or otherwise, without seeing a face pic first.

Me ~ not on your nelly!!!

We’re not too fussy when it comes to looks etc, however we want to know that we are meeting a real person at least and not a fake profile.

All we ask is they have a sense of humour.

There and to the left a bit

I wouldn't say absolutely never, but it'd have to be someone I had connected with on every other level and got some level of chemistry with for me to do so - there's one person here whose face I've not seen who I'd meet for a social but they'd probably be the exception not the rule.

I also guess for it to happen you'd have to either be sent a pic before the meet anyway, or have agreed to a carnation in the buttonhole and a copy of The Times under one arm set up for recognition purposes.

Back in times of yore, before t'interweb & digital photography, you had to purchase a copy of Rendezvous, send an introductory letter (including your landline phone number), and an actual photograph. Then wait a couple of weeks for a reply, some of the pics we received back in return, were amusing to say the least!

I *think this for me too. I wouldn't do a blind sex date as such but if we had got on really well in messages I dont see why I wouldnt do a social. Im finding photos compared to real life can vary massively anyway. You'd have to pick something really obscure to recognise each other by for a bit of fun.

I've done it a few times (socials)...the success rate is probably as high (if not slightly higher) as meets where I've already seen a face pic.

I did in the 90s, one or two worked out ok, most were unmitigated disasters.

There's no need now with smart phones, and I would really resent wasting my free time meeting someone I had no physical attraction to.

I'm meeting someone who hasn't seen mine. Only because I know him and it's been funny him trying to work out who I am so has become part of the game.

I wouldn't meet without seeing a face pic, I don't have much free time so I'd only want to meet if I knew there was at least some physical attraction and potential for more.

Roll on to 2018 and in a moment of weakness following a reasonable period of chatting over a number of days I agreed to meet without having seen a face pic... got there and left pronto - let's just say the profile was not true to real life.

Yes for social as we've found that pics don't always truly represent the person even if taken on the day. Wouldn't meet for anything else without social anyway.

At the end of the day you do what you feel is right if he wanted to meet you that much then he would send you a face pic after all he is happy to show it to you in person. If you want to see a face pic and he won't send one then just say thanks but no thanks and leave it at that, the ball as they say is then in his court.
