Dating in an open relationship

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

My girlfriend and I have recently agreed to an open relationship. It started off as a long distance, but since we both crave the physical side of things, it made sense to move in this direction.

She finds it really easy to meet people whereas I struggle a bit. Can anyone who's been in an open relationship shed any light on how to safely navigate these waters?

Does cheating still exist in open relationships?

Yes! I've heard a few stories seems pretty stupid if you ask me , as I said before be honest say when your meeting where and when my partner doesn't want details neither do I as long as we both have a fun time

"What aspect of it are you struggling with?"

Meeting people who are okay with me being in an OR.

Most people are monogamous, so not sure where to look!

I was about to ask how he met other people but I realise that may be inappropriate...

Oh so you’re less struggling with being in an OR, more struggling to find meets. Is it because people want to meet someone single, or because they might not believe your relationship is open (eg. not wanting to meet someone cheating)? Or is it that people haven’t wanted to meet you per se? All would invoke different actions to combat.

There's just some things that are out of my control (people just not wanting to me). I'm just a little lost on where to meet people, and a follow on from that is telling them I'm also seeing someone else

He met them on tinder, on fab, at work, but mostly went back to the girl he'd had an affair with at the beginning of our marriage

It was either this or ending it completely, and neither of us wanted the latter

I've been thinking of open relationships a lot recently but this aspect of it worries me a bit.

North west ish

We thought of this but decided against it. Whilst the idea/reality of fucking someone else is hot, falling in love with someone else would kill us. So not for us. You have to think of all potential possibilities and how it would effect you. If not then why be in a relationship? Communication is key. If you decide to go for it them maybe a poly lifestyle would work.

That is the behaviour of someone who would cheat, whether the relationship is open or monogamous

My wife & I have been in an open relationship for the last few years. She used to see a man regularly, but he ended it,since then she's not seen anyone. I've found a couple of ladies through another site, one of which didn't go anywhere, the other has become a good friend. So for me it's worked ok. I guess it's not for every couple though.

We're both still quite young so we don't have any significant commitments to each other (a house or a family), so we thought we'd experiment with others and see how it goes.

The main reason we're doing this is because of distance. We do care about each other and don't want to hold the other back because of distance.

If it's done properly then it can be a wonderful thing, alas it wasn't meant to be for me x

We are currently looking for a bi lady to join us. We intend to treat her as part of our relationship and just have fun together.

Wether that fun is as a threesome or on weekends away as a couple (in any order)

But I think the key is all three being honest.

Some people want emotional monogamy. I know I do but I would consider an open thing if I had a serious partner.

Op. Im in an open relationship and have been for nearly 13 years. Works perfectly for us. I think the reason you are struggling is because not everyone wants to meet someone in an open relationship and also your the male half. Males in general struggle more than females

I'm in an open relationship. As long as you are open, be honest, communicate with each, respect each other, don't cheat I.e hide anything from each other, even trust each other. Hubby is vanilla, I'm Dominant, when I'm doing a session knows exactly where, who I am with etc .

Thanks for sharing your experience! I guess I have to chat to people that interest me and see if they get respond. Was Fabs the only place you met other people?

Depends on how comfortable you are with it. Many on here don’t mind if you are in a relationship or not. Read up on poly lifestyles.

Same advice as any newbie go to socials, clubs and meet people.

I am poly, married, husband and partner as well.

Feel free to message me about it (anyone) if you have any questions.

My husband and I really struggle to find people for relationships as most people are monogamous and don't get it.

As I am mainly looking for sex and D/s, I have it a lot easier as I can look on here. He does struggle though.

As for if cheating can occur in open relationships - yes. Cheating is breaking the rules set out between the two of you.

Never had any reason to. If you are honest with each other. No reason to cheat. We have been together over 10 years, trust and honesty
