Just got in the current bill.
Its been adjusted to take into account our reduced gas usage, a projected(by them) raised electric usage and our previous 6 months usage.
The new direct debit has gone from £87 per month to £195 per month
They're not only after a pint of blood, they want to cut our throats and bleed us dry! |

They did that to us and we phoned and queried it. Basically, we told them we're not paying way up front for electricity/gas we haven't used and if they want to argue about it we'll switch to another provider.
Now we're paying £100/month for both utilities as opposed to the £175/month they wanted. We were already £500 in credit with them and they wanted more. |

My DD more than doubled for gas and electricity and with VAT etc.
I've installed meters now and pay as I go using a card and key that I top up via my laptop. |

I urge you all to phone them and have it out with them. How can they possibly charge you projected usage when you can't possibly know what your circumstances will be in six months time.
Do they go to their supermarket and pay for their shopping six months before they want to buy it? Do they hell. |

Check your tariff...so many are on the wrong one...
Check your supplier against another..
The price rise is mainly because we now have to inport our gas from mainland Europe...not helped by the shortage of oil as a result of the Arab revolutions, and Japans demand for gas, creating an upward curve in prices..
I dare say the situation in Iran will effect us..
Then there`s the Euro..
Allowing the big 6 energy suppliers to deliberately operate as a cartel is scandalous.....obfuscation writ large, and business lunches t`ween the players..
Get the jumpers out methinks..
And buy uncustomed diesel heating oil...it`ll be worth a fortune soon %* |

I don't think they play fair at all.
I recently had a conversation with them after the utilities were put in my name. The account was over £300 in credit.
I asked how to pay and they said I could stick a direct debit in my name on my account to send them the money, or pay on quarterly bills,
I said I'd pay the bills quarterly unless there was a big benefit to paying upfront. "What's the saving I'd make?"
At that point our friends at BG went very quiet, put me on hold for more than 5 minutes and came back saying "Erm it MIGHT save you a maximum of £45 a year". MIGHT????
All they seem to want is to take the cash off you and then you have the devil's job getting it back off them when you overpay. |

we can shout as much as we like at the power companies but its not going to change the fact that the dole que gets longer every day due to cuts there for more and more of us are having to stay at home this puts more strain on ageing power stations so the break down more and parts have to be shipped in from abroad as we dont make anything here any more to get the parts from the port to the power station they travel by road and fuel and transport cost's put up the price of the parts putting up the cost of electric then you have them who get free electric by sola power we have to pay for there refund aswell so paint over your next doors sola panals that will be a start |

They all would rather have money up front but if you are not in a fixed tariff that's not a bad thing. You could end up paying for next years fuel at this years prices which may be a difference of up to 20% its a better return than money in the bank. (Just make sure meeter readings are higher now) |

That's not quite correct. If you overpay now and are in credit you don't get fuel in six months time at today's prices. You pay whatever the rate is at the time you use it, so you could be buying fuel that is cheaper now but when you use it it is more expensive thus devalueing the money you've already paid. Plus you can't charge them interest on your money they are holding onto. It's fucking scandalous! |

I am so glad I never opted for direct debit payment.... I get a bill every quarter via email and pay for what I have used. I enter my meter readings monthly on line and use the year on year tracker to see if I am using more or less. |

we pay monthly, its easyer to budget, but you have to be paying the right amount, we are normaly in the red in winter and in the black in summer, so sometimes we win sometimes they win, seems fair and works for us, plus we know how much its going to be every month.
but you do need to keep an eye on them |
