I think it's more about being realistic. 10 is fricking smoking hot. Pure perfection. I see some A list stars like that and even then very few. I don't think there are even many 8's on the site. Men and women. Maybe my rating system is too high, in regards to what i think a person should be (myself included). But in that regard, i see rating myself as a 6, not just realistic, but not bad going at all

As an aside. An immediate turn off is any profile that declares themselves as HOT, or only looking for HOT couples/women/men. Appreciate that asthetics matter, but for me people who start off by declaring themselves as HOT already have enough ego in the bed and probably don't have room for another body.

This is very true. Someone I initially perceive as gorgeous will become less and less attractive if they reveal themselves to be lacking in intelligence or humour. You start to find fault in their appearance... but then the opposite is also true. Someone initially seen as average can gradually become sexy as hell if their character presses all the right buttons. It's why you should always have a social meet first!

Putting a low mark doesn't mean people have low self esteem , I happen to think I'm a pretty decent lovable person, I'm just realistic about my outward appearance
