I was very sad to read that Aretha is gravely ill. Her voice has seen me through some very dark times. Such a talent and I wish her well.

If you dont know her stuff, YouTube some of her live performances, just incredible power, control and soul.

My favs are Aint No Way and Natural Woman.

Do you have a favourite? X

I say a little prayer - her version is much more ballsier than Dionne Warwicks.

I just love the song (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. It's a great song and Aretha's version is fantastic. I would simply implore anyone who's not seen it to go and find her performance of the song at the Kennedy Center Honors from a few years back, in front of Carole King herself. It's beyond great

Man I am gutted...

She was one of those people who songs I grew up with on a Sunday morning after church!

If anyone wants to go and look it up she does a cracking gospel cover of “bridge over troubled waters” which is spectacular!

RIP the queen of soul

Actually you could almost credit her with bringing back “America the beautiful” back to prominence.... whenever she would sing that or the national anthem they were always superb

Was listening to Craig Charles on Radio 2 when the news broke. As a soul and funk DJ and super fan, the sadness in his voice was heartbreaking

A very sad day Indeed for soul music, she was one of those special people that could get across the nation with her music and eventually most of the world, RIP Aretha.

I met her in "Rules" Restaurant in Covent Garden in the early 1980's. She and her manager were sat at the table next to us. We as usual were talking about music and she was "earwiging" lol. None of us recognized her, but she struck up a conversation with us, tables were moved together and we spent the whole night talking about music of all sorts, not just Soul. Obviously we did recognize her once conversation started, but she was so interested in what we liked that it just "lit" up the night.

What can i say.............a very nice lady.................the best female soul voice that has ever existed and i don't think for one min that anyone will ever equal her talent again...............just gobsmackingly awesome.

RIP Aretha.
