Watch out for amazon echo in bedrooms

We just bought an amazon echo for our bedroom. And found it comes with a camera that records video.

So thought we would let people know that they should check out thier surroundings when playing with strangers to make sure they don't have one that could be used to record you.xx

Yes I've often thought what if someone has set up a camera if you go to theirs, you just don't know these days. Insist on doing it with the lights off!

There was a news report recently where friends phoned someone to tell them that their 'conversation' was being recorded and relayed by their 'do dah' in the bedroom.

Can't recall if it was Alexa or Google. Same ting innit.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I don't trust them. They are always listening, waiting to be activated.

Unfortunately, I think we've reached a point where so many devices are capable of recording us that it would mean using an entirely empty room to be safe.

This is one of quite a few 'innovations' I struggle to understand why I would want to own. I don't even use the speech thingy (technical term) on my phone and I see there is one on one of our many TV remote thingumajigs...might be a fire stick? Why do I want this?

The amazon stuff is actually pretty good. It links up to our TV, to our heating and hot water. We do our online tesco shopping with it as well.

It's great for music and audio books too.

We love it with the exception of the privacy risk. Xx

Each to their own, but the whole thing mildly scares me, but then 1984 is my favourite book..

If you're gonna invite the internet with a camera into your bedroom, it's a risk you take. None of it is secure - every appliance has "back doors" built into it. You just don't know if anyone has flicked a switch somewhere.

To be honest 'spy' cameras have been around for a long time, built into alarm clocks, radios, or just a spy hole in the wardrobe. 1 newish gadget makes no difference to the risk.

If you see one chuck some discarded clothing over it and crack on.
