I was in Oxfam's book/ record shop today and a rather demanding member of the public was insisting that staff reccomended/found funk records so that he could advance his tastes.

I told him he should look for:

Curtis Mayfield,

Leroy Hutson,

Funkadelic,

George Clinton,

The Commodores,

Bootsy Collins.

He already had a lot of James Brown.

What would the funky Fabbers recommend?

Maybe I should have called this thread: "If you've got funk, you've got style"....

I have a large collection of vinyl records, mainly funk, deep funk, tamla Mowtown. I have a music room, twin Dec's, mixer etc just so I can blast the tunes.

I'd recommended :

Sly & The Family Stone

Eddie Kendricks

The Bar-Kays

Average White Band

Isaacs Hayes

The Isley Bro's

And Eddie Bo, he's just amazing

I've got plenty of vinyl and a deck ( I can't see the point in two and a mixer when I'm not DJing anything). I'm lacking funk myself, although I've ordered the "new" Leroy Hutson anthology.....

Funnily enough, I have great parties, flashing lights and funky tunes. I bloody love playing vinyl.

How's Blackpool tonight? I was born in Blackpool Victoria Hospital and worked there too.

My bit of Blackpool is nice and quiet now. It was the air show earlier but unfortunately I missed it

Always good to meet another Blackpool lady.

having two decks is great ... means you can take two copies of the same funk tune and back spin one against the other and genrally fuck about with them

i recommend the Dayton Sidewinders
