I’m a big fan of foreign films outside of Hollywood.

Three standout films are

1.) Taxidermia (Hungarian) - probably the most twisted iconic ending to a film ever.

2.) Dogtooth (Greek) - the weird meets the absurd. I suspect this might have a few on fab in stitches.

3.) A Prophet (French) - We’ll performed, great story arc and another great ending.

Let me know if you’ve seen any of these, anything else you find interesting and any other thoughts regarding films.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I haven't seen those. I pick quirky ones at the BFI Film Festival each year. I can never remember what they're called.

I saw The Square earlier this year. It has the funniest sex scene ever.

One of the best war/anti-war films is "Come and See", a 1985 Soviet WWII movie directed by Elem Klimov.

It's a surreal, unsettling, extremely disturbing piece of work with a masterful and affecting performance from the young male lead, Aleksey Kravchenko. A MUST see.

Saw it in the cinema, wonderful story and acting. I was really scarred by the paternal/mentor relationship between the main character and the elder prisoner (forgo the character name). Powerful film.

Dubbing is the worst thing you can do to a film, 70s Chinese martial arts films exempt obviously.

L'Impiegato - Italian New Wave Cinema Classic (1958). Sexy as f*ck women, stylish men and a belter of a soundtrack. Oh yeah - the plot is pretty brilliant too. Kinda Billy Liar-ish.

Once were Warriors is a classic.

There is another Australian film called Samson & Delilah about a mute teenager And his girlfriend who live on an aboriginal reserve going for an adventure in the city. It’s got hardly any dialogue but it’s a brilliant film and very realistic. I’ve been to the community where it was shot in the desert it is just like that.

Another good Aussie film is Bliss, Based on the novel by Peter Carey & of course the famous & brilliant film Walkabout

Cinema Paradiso - one of the first subtitled films I saw. Loved it and still in my top ten films (I actually like the long version).

Kontroll- Hungarian film about their subway and the ticket inspectors, add a killer who’s pushing people on to the lines and a love story (girl walking around in a bears costume).

Subway -Luc Besson film with Christopher Lambert (not obsessed with subways honest)

Downfall- Hitlers last days in the bunker.

The Lives of Others - Stasi, east Berlin

A very long engagement, Amelie, Oldboy, City of God, The Raid, The Ring etc…

I feel sorry for those who don’t venture in to World Cinema because they don’t like to read subtitles.
