New Zealand advice from experienced.

I was here before and I got a satisfying feedback! I asked which country shouldI do my working visa? Oz or Nz? Well now I'm going with New Zealand.

So.... I'm looking to go to nz for a year working and traveling around the majority of the country, I'm thinking of buying a van and sometimes sleeping in the back of it and stay in hostels also to meet people, I will work also so maybe it's better to get a house share for that, so any recommendations for

• Buying a van, is fuel expensive, tax? Requirements?

• Working? Where? (Construction, retail, manufacturing, farm, picking, general work)

•House share, where and is it expensive?

I hope someone that has been through all this experience can give me advice, I'm aware that some people on this site have been there already, maybe expand on their experiences and give more detail.

I haven't worked there but have visited several times and driven myself right around both islands.

I know that WWOOFs were in demand last time I was there. You could go to different farms that way. The one I spent time on was an art and yoga retreat with a small organic farm. They took WWOOFs for a month or so at a time.

NZ is chocka with health things. Just look it up.

And.. of course traveling in a country, working here and there is going to be expensive, its the experience you gain and maybe you don't know how to travel cheap

Well, we travelled for 32 days And spent 4 days at a mate's place. 18 days of that paid £50 a day for the camper, and 14 days paid £30 a day. Mostly ate in the van, only ate out a few times, didn't go crazy but saw and paid for a few sites.

Overall we spent £3k, averaging £84 a day. That was in 2015.

If you want to do the touristy or adventure things then you will need to decide what you really want to do and take that over and above what you might need to live on.

I hired a very cheap car and budgeted about £60 per day for food, petrol and accommodation. People are friendly and I got recommendations of good, but inexpensive, places to stay as I chatted to people.

I also had about 5 days accommodation and food for free (well, the cost of a slap-up dinner) by staying with NZ family of UK friends. That led to getting mates rates on some things as they would call friends and let them know I was heading their way.

NZ $ can fluctuate a lot, so you may save a lot of money

by buying currency in advance or not. Also consider a pre-paid credit card to save on exchange costs.

Remember that the climate varies greatly between the islands & so does the economy. In winter (now) NZ is virtually dead & accommodation is cheaper but work maybe scarcer. I was surprised just how desolate it was in the winter in places as there is no tourist activity & lots of places were closed for months.

Some of it is but it's marginal. The exciting and dangerous activities are on the South Island, home of bungee jumping, white water rafting and Fiordland.

Some of it is but it's marginal. The exciting and dangerous activities are on the South Island, home of bungee jumping, white water rafting and Fiordland.
