Did you realise with Booking.com some hotels you actually need to pay for upfront rather than just reserve!

Had a very assertive conversation this evening with one group of hotels. They rang to ask me to pay, which I was happy to do BUT.... confirmation takes you to a VISA confirmation page and the box you need to CONFIRM drops off the screen so there’s no way you can!

Took the hotel agggggges to pick up and swore blind that wasn’t the case! If I turn up for my stay and I’ve no room available the shit is gonna hit the fan!!

Yeah, this has happened to me before, but they tried to call me when I was abroad. Came home to find that I had no room and the only one they would give me was over five times the price. Hopping mad, I was!

Been caught out before too, add a credit card to your Booking.com account and the hotel will take it directly from there.

Aww god. I’ve been caught out with this loads of times (I never learn) looks like you pay when you’re there but they take the money weeks before.

Drives me potty. Stopped using it now

Oh and the one where there was no room not only did the hotel honour it they upgraded the room as that was the only one available. Ended up getting a good deal in the end

Ring the hotel and ask them to price match - as they have no fees to pay to the booking site they actually make more money and you don’t need to worry about being eother put in a shit room (happens all the time) or your booking cancelled sometimes without actually letting you know in favour of a direct booking (happens occasionally).

Some hotels will and some won’t but it is worth a call.

you can message the booking.com help desk they are generally very helpful but if you havnt got a booking confirmation you havnt got a room, most hotels accept payment at desk but some of the supposedly cheaper deals require payment up front

It says when you book the room wether or not you pay at the hotel or up front.

I've had it where they hold the first night's stay on your card a week before but don't actually take the payment.

The right place

I once booked a room through Booking.com they phoned me the day before to tell me that they had over booked and my room wasn’t available. They offered me alternative options but none had a pool, so they found one that did that was considerably more expensive than my original booking but they refunded the difference.

Never had a problem with Booking.com and as Evie says it will clearly state if the room is one where you pay at the hotel

Maybe I’m just lucky
