Annoying Things Customers Do

For all those who deal with customers, what is one of the most annoying things a customer has ever done at your workplace?

One that annoys me is when customers enter a screen while it is being cleaned or while a previous screening hasn't even finished yet.

I'm trying not to rant now

But if I fuck up, I have to pay for my mistake. I fucked up last week whilst having umpteen different people asking me for things at the same time, including bills. I gave one of those people the wrong bill and the difference was £16.60. I had to pay the difference.

If customers fuck up they should pay too.

When they complain about something that's beyond my control, but if there's a complaint I can take care of I will make sure it gets taken care of and I'll check with the guest later on to make sure it was dealt to their satisfaction.

Case in point - the other morning an elderly man was annoyed that the toaster wasn't toasting properly and we only serve scrambled egg. The toaster was on full but as it was first thing in the morning it was still heating up. Our whole company only serves scrambled egg, we don't have fresh eggs and even if we did we have no where to cook them.

Later that same morning - a lady pulled quite a long hair (didn't belong to any staff on duty) out of her beans. I apologised a lot, took the hair away, got her a fresh plate of food for her from the buffet, told her who to ask for at the reception to get a satisfactory conclusion for her. My manager and I worked together to get the problem resolved for her, she had a sense of humour thankfully, thanked me for my help and complimented me on the way I handled it.

I refuse to serve people who are on their phones and go to every table but them. If they say "can you hang on a sec" or something similar to the person they're talking to then yes, not a problem, but whilst they don't think I'm worthy of their attention, they aren't worthy of mine.

I wouldn't refund, I'd offer them tickets to another film.

I think names along with ID checked should be taken and put into a database to keep tabs on serial complainers.

I have done this. If i went out and complained during the film id miss part of the film !!! I got tickets refunded plus the price of the food refunded. It was especially annoying because staff had come in several times during the film but did nothing about it !

And there lies the problem. When someone is messing about, it seems customers have this dilemma which is go out to tell someone and miss part of the film or sit and do nothing.

Plus, how are the staff supposed to know if there is a problem if nobody tells them about it? Also the screenings can be pretty loud which would make it difficult to hear anyone causing trouble.

I work in customer services for a parcel delivery driver. I spend half my day dealing with people who claim to have been at home and sitting right by the door when the driver knocked. When we point out that the driver’s gps puts them right outside the house they still sometimes maintain that the data is wrong and the driver is lying about trying to deliver. The ones that really make me laugh are those who claim to have cctv to prove the driver didn’t come. When we invite them to email it in to us they almost always claim not to know how

I work in a petrol station:

When customers jump the queue and/or just hand you the money, whilst you’re still serving someone...

When you’re serving and someone stands at the door and asks you a question, expecting an immediate answer...

Approach you and expect to be served straightaway, when you haven’t finished putting the money in the till from the previous customer...

Customers who argue with you when you’ve asked them to stop smoking on the forecourt, or even next to a tanker doing a delivery and when you point this out, they say they didn’t know ...

Bo and the smell from rotten teeth...

Men who come in the pay and are shirtless in this hot weather...

People who put money, cards, etc. into their mouth before they hand it to you...

Being sworn at when you’ve asked them for ID for age restricted items...

On the whole, most customers are lovely with whom I can chat and banter with.

Just how long do you think a delivery driver’s shift is? If he/she has 100 parcels to deliver and has to wait 10 minutes at each stop do you think it would actually be feasible for him/ her to complete the route? Many drivers already work a 10 or 12 hour day without adding in 10 minutes waiting at each property.

Our system requires us to take a photo of the front door area. The time is logged. So if they say we didn't go there, haha, proof that we did. Maybe not proof that we knocked, but we always leave a card. Why go there and not knock?

I spend hours giving people advice for them to literally walk off and do the complete opposite right in front of me!!! Then!... come back weeks later asking why they are not progressing or getting the results they want!! Sends me crazy

Our system requires us to take a photo of the front door area. The time is logged. So if they say we didn't go there, haha, proof that we did. Maybe not proof that we knocked, but we always leave a card. Why go there and not knock?"

If someone took a photo of my front area without my permission there would be serious repercussions! Some delivery drivers are twonks lol. I said ‘some’.

"For all those who deal with customers, what is one of the most annoying things a customer has ever done at your workplace?

One that annoys me is when customers enter a screen while it is being cleaned or while a previous screening hasn't even finished yet."

Reporting me to corporate for calling them a "Uneducated cum bucket" after he spat at my work friend (who is a women of colour) because he didn't like the fact that all the n- worders were taking the jobs still got put on fucking disiplinary

What if the customer was in the loo? Do you wait say 10 minutes or not? I’ve had delivery drivers put a card through but haven’t knocked.....useless twonks!

Ok so maybe if customers stop ordering items you have no one to deliver to then no moaning from you delivery drivers "

We are at our depot about 5:30 in the morning. Its a long enough day without waiting 10 minutes for every bloody delivery. We do a pre-call to inform of our ETA. And the amount of people that say "yes, we are in" and no one answers is shocking. We cover a wide area, so time is limited. No answer, a card is left. Later on they call and say "we were in" then ANSWER THE FLAMING DOOR THEN, YOU KNEW WE WERE COMING, WE RANG AND TOLD YOU OUR ETA. People. Tut.

If anyone queries why, I politely explain. Never had a problem. But if anyone refused, no delivery. We deliver high priced items, we need to cover our arses.

People are taking my comments out of proportion. I didn’t say every house the driver waits 10 minutes. However I have always made sure my deliveries are delivered to work as I’m there 5 days a week. I was once caring for a sick relation and was indisposed for a few minutes, even though I shouted ‘just a munute’ the driver did not wait. Taking pics of property feels like an invasion of privacy.

Is the photo taking explained by the retailer in the delivery conditions ?

As I said, when explained the reason, every person we have delivered to has been great. If anyone objected, then we would refuse to deliver. The things WE deliver are not your ordinary parcels. It's expensive stuff. Arse-covering is vital.

It's just a photo. Only looked at if there is a dispute over whether things have been delivered, ie lying customers, and to prove that the driver went there in the case of 'not ins'. That's all. Nothing sinister. And yes, we are all CRB checked.

Having a photo of your front door means nothing when the items delivered aren’t even close to what you ordered

Followed by weeks sorting the issue with their fraud department as they had a thief in one of their depots.

Yodel brought my parcel a day early with no notification of that. Good job I was at work, the package had missing parts inside and the supplier wanted me to pay £7 to return it! Erm no that didn’t happen. I then had to stay in a full day for it to be collected! Total nightmare and I have no item and no faith in the supplier! Not a word of apology was given!

There's one shocking thing that people do in my business, ie, Licensing / Hotels.

The morons (usually Guys) who'll get ill and go the loos to throw up!

But they miss the WC and mess up the Sinks, Floor, every conceivable part of the Toilets.

Accidents happen but at least have the intelligence and own up with an apology; not as some do and slink off, not saying a word!

Or the guests who accidentally wet their bed, even shit in it, then leave the next day but remake the bed as if nothing has happened.

Housekeeping find it, the room has to be taken off for 24 hours for Industrial deep cleaning and when the occupants are billed £150 cleaning, swear it wasn't them!! One guest claimed he found it like that! (Yet did not complain at all!).

Re Parcels deliveries, I once organised a package to be delivered at my Work Address.

It failed to arrive so I checked with the Courier Company. They checked and advised me the driver couldn't locate anyone at the address. I asked what time he'd allegedly tried to deliver and though the company supplied me the details, they made it clear their driver was correct! It was my problem!

They soon changed their minds when I viewed our site CCTV including the main gate through which any vehicle would be caught on camera; it showed their liveried van arrive at the appropriate time, drive in & immediately turn round and drive out again! Nor did the driver even get out of his van!

I supplied a copy of our CCTV recordings with a copy and a complaint letter to both their UK and USA Headquarters.

They investigated their driver, found out enough to sack him and apoligise profusely for the issues.

Obviously without knowing all the details but with an American connection is their own delivery scheduling times so ludicrously tight the driver felt he couldn't afford the time? Once had a delivery driver tell me he had five minutes for off loading, not much chance when he had to off load two 100kg+ wood burners!

I got a picture of someone else's front door when I asked for proof a driver had been

I’m saying nowt lol.......

Not all drivers are honest lol. But could have been a mistake on the depots part

Having a photo of your front door means nothing when the items delivered aren’t even close to what you ordered

Thank you UPS, cost us two days to sort out.

Why are you naming and shaming Yodel, who only brought your item a day early, instead of the supplier you had the issue with?

Come to collect a very large item in a small car. Example is attempting to collect 70" TV in a convertible or mini. Collect a photocopier in a fiesta

You would be surprised how many think a fridge freezer fits in a small car. Or attempt to collect a heavy pallet load 500-800kg in a small car.

Another one is when customers complain about the slightest little mark on a used item. Or complain about a part missing which is mentioned.

"Happened to me this morning , I'm a parcel delivery driver went to a house and banged on the door no answer it needed a signature so put a card through the door and the customer claimed I didn't knock and she claimed she was up , hate lying bastards !!!

"

Ah yes the non answerers, they don't understand the idea of a sense of urgency People who when you knock, patiently wait for 30 sec then knock again, they then answer all stroppy because you knocked again making them feel rushed. I didn't know if you heard the first time (bear in mind some people like this are asleep from night shifts and being told a parcel will arrive between 8am-8pm doesn't help a lot, so give those ones a break). People who moan you knock too quiet, knock too loud.

From previous jobs:

Customers all placing orders five minutes before close.

Customers who expect free goodies thrown in, "I'm a regular" they say. Broke my heart to tell them most of the customers are regulars.

People blaming you for Their mistake! Demanding refunds etc then when you politely point out its their fault, they say you made them stand there too long (it was them wasting your time)

And worst of all, littering in your premises! Disgusting.

"There's one shocking thing that people do in my business, ie, Licensing / Hotels.

That is.......shocking! I once had an ‘accident’ (ladies problems) and I gave the receptionist £25 when I checked out, I felt really bad. "

I also heard guys often pee in the kettle since they can't be bothered to go properly

It's a customer service thread though. The courier in your case could have just been the intermediary and the actual issue was with the supplier.

Again, what's with the attitude.

I have not defended couriers anywhere in this thread (I personally don't like them because they do seem to deliver when they feel like it). The only people defending couriers have been people that work for them (apart from one who'd had a conversation with one about their working conditions) which is their right as this is a "what does a customer do that you don't like" thread.

I’ve not an ‘attitude’ as such, it’s just my sense of humour that’s all. Yep that’s the thread and seems to have gone off topic which usually happens on here. Without ‘customers’ people who work in Customer Service wouldn’t be needed.

I work in a retail environment where customers are allowed to take their dogs in. You can guess what's coming!!

Some dogs can't seem to hold their wee or poo and we have been expected to clean up after them in the past. My lovely new manager has set up a 'doggy station' with everything an owner would need to clean up after their pooches.

A few weeks ago a lady was in with her 2 puppies who both had an accident. As I walked past I told her I'd get the trolley for her. She looked really grateful when I returned until I said 'there's everything you need on here, even gloves'

Why don't you just change jobs ?

"For all those who deal with customers, what is one of the most annoying things a customer has ever done at your workplace?

One that annoys me is when customers enter a screen while it is being cleaned or while a previous screening hasn't even finished yet.

How does one enter a screen ?

WTF is a screen that can be entered ?"

I meant cinema screen

You dont seem to like anything about your job, maybe you need to do something different so you enjoy it ! Working in a job where you deal with customers means you will get all sorts happening but to have so many things that you are unhappy with must mean your job is tiresome !

Another is can I get a discount or will you sell cheap. Amount of messages asking for a cheap price for a expensive item is crazy. Yes I will sell you it for 20 instead of 110.

Jacking up in the toilets n leaving dirty needles lying on the floor....rather chuffing irritating. And time consuming.

Twatty teenagers that think they r better than every1 else, but end up being removed by us or the coppers.

People that click their fingers at me to get my attention...I blank them I can't even pretend to be nice.
