Look at it as an opportunity rather than something bad. Been there 3 times so I know what I'm talking about. Don't wallow just get out there and find something better. |

Bizarre as it may sound, I'd take it as a compliment.
The brown nosers and the yes men tend to stay on. The other employees who they see as survivors they will sling out, knowing that they can get a job more easily than the brown nosers and the yes men.
It's a back handed compliment. They are saying you are capable. Treat it as such.
All the best for the future

Going through an organisational change process right now and will find out whether I’m being made redundant or not in a few weeks...I know how you feel right now. It sucks.
But I’m looking at it as an opportunity to look at my career, see where I really want it to go and to see what else is out there. You may get a fantastic new job out of this. *hugs* |

Oh that’s awful.... hopefully you will get something sorted ASAP and in a few months you’ll be able to look back and everything has worked out for the best... shit feeling though... more hugs sent your way

Redundancy doesn't have to be a catastrophe, you can use it to your advantage. Sometimes we can get to comfortable in a job and ignore other opportunities.
The supermarket I work in recently made all team leaders redundant. Some took colleague roles instead at reduced rates of pay.
One has decided to take the rest of the summer off and then has plans to start her own business. Another always wanted to be a teacher but never did it because she had young children at home. Her children are now older and she is starting university in September.
An enforced change like redundancy can be a positive thing. |

I have been made redundant a number of times in my career which is a symptom of my trade (construction related). -best advice I can give is get off the Forums now and hit the ground running -polish up and update your C.V., and get it out to as many people as you can. Spend a bit of time on a well written cover letter and make sure you customise both it & your C.V. for every application you make. treat job hunting like a job and you can't go wrong. As for the shock of it -applying yourself to proactive job hunting tasks is the best way to get you from feeling down about it. Above all, keep trying no matter how many rejections. |

Good luck , I was made redundant after 14 yrs service in January, we were informed the week before xmas. I used the redundancy money to take some time off n do things I’ve been putting off. Sometimes it’s the push you need to do something else or just reevaluate your position in life . All the best |

Why do people always say there’s plenty of jobs out there
All depends on your background and past experiences and what you want to do
I hate my job and have been looking for something else for ages now but they all want a cv which I don’t have and can’t remember dates if past jobs so it’s harder than you think
Xxxx |

I know the feeling, I'm 7 months into my redundancy after 30 years without ever being out of work. The first couple of months can be nice; get on top of DIY and have some down time but now it's starting to get tiresome.
I probably apply for about 5 jobs a week but go for quality rather than quantity and when I get interviews (5 so far) I really put full effort into researching the company and preparing well.
Keep your chin up, it only takes one opportunity to break the rut and it will happen.
Don't forget you are due contributory JSA I didn't think I could get it due to savings but you are due it, only a tenner a day but every little helps, it can also be a great time to really research your out goings, switch energy companies, renegotiate insurances and telephone contracts etc, whilst you have the time it's a perfect time to analyse your budget.
Good luck! |

Sorry to hear the news; but now is a great time to change direction if you wish too that is! Or stay in the same field.
Have lie-ins, rest and chill and find yourself again. Look for jobs each day. Try a new course. Have a week or holiday away.
Good luck OP! |

Sorry to hear you have been made redundant I hope you get something soon as lots of people think they find a job and 6 months later they are still claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or Universal Credit.I respect the fact you have your pride but get yourself down to the job centre as whilst your unemployed you will receive some benefits you are entitled to and whilst on benefits your national insurance contribution are payed for so when you get to pension age you will have paid enough into the system they should also refer you to National Career Service to help you with your CV.I work in a job centre so I know how hard it is to find suitable employment.Best of luck with everything and try and enjoy the summer. |

Got made redundant a couple of years ago, then ended up getting a much better job and getting a nice redundancy pay out from them. Then they went bust, so it was the best possible thing to happen! |

I was once let go on Christmas eve and obviously gutted, turned out to the best thing that could have happened.
If I had worked another month I would have had to pony up about four grand in working tax credits... |
