"They probably need it, but they don’t deserve it.
"
This unfortunately.
I have family in Bury and they have mentioned that there is a lot of ill will against these lads.
I did have a FFS moment when I read that one of their mothers are moaning that it is spoiling her son's 16th Birthday weekend, they have family coming for a big party |

That made me rage.
Erm, as the person still responsible she should have cancelled the party, and marched that cunt straight to the cop shop. |

It depends if there is a real risk they will be attacked if they aren't protected. If so, the police are obliged to protect them and if they didn't they could be sued.
Being punished for crimes you committed does not mean you are not entitled to protection against crime. |

They don’t deserve but they will get it as does everybody who is under threat. The protection will be low level, hourly drive bys etc and target hardening of their houses such as fire proofing etc. If somebody really wanted to hurt them then the protection offered won’t stop them. |

My heart says No, they deserve what they get.
But my head says yes, as chances are they could actually get seriously harmed, and maybe not just them but any innocent family members or friends with them at the time.
Minimal protection, enough to keep them safe until court, where hopefully the law won't be an ass.... Then jail.
Where they'll probably get a far worse punishment dished out on them... Shame

It makes me seethe to think of sparse police resources being used to protect vile pathetic bullies like that (and any number of similarly undeserving and unpleasant people). However the alternative - letting people take the law into their own hands - isn't acceptable either and the police would then have an even bigger mess to clear up.
That's not to say I wouldn't love them to get a taste of their own medicine and to experience a fraction of the fear and humiliation that woman felt. But that'd make 'us' just as bad as them. I obviously hope they're lawfully punished and suspect the damage to their reputations (which could affect work, relationships etc) will probably be an added punishment 'above and beyond sentencing in the future. |

No, they are criminals and shouldn’t get any protection. Stick them in jail until their trial if they are that worried.
Personally I’d bring back the stocks and let people throw flour, eggs and other things at them. |

Indeed, but then police resources wouldn't be needed to protect them if people didn't think mob justice a good idea... |

"So the 4 youths who egged and floured a disabled wonan in a public park then took a selfie are asking for police protection.
Should they get it?"
Morally, no, but unfortunately, criminals are just as entitled to receive protection. However, what may mitigate the cost would be them to fund it themselves, i.e. community service, for example. |

I am struggling to see how that is connected to my comment so a bit unsure...do you mean if my kid had broken the law would I lie and cover for them to the police? |

Do they deserve it? Not really.
But the whole ethos of law and order in the UK is to treat everyone equally and uphold the law and protect life and keep the peace.
The public should be better than the youths and rise above them, hence we will protect them if required. |

That would be me.
I would drag my little darlin' down the police station. Had there been a B'day party planned it would be cancelled, presents returned to the shop.
And that would be for just posing for the pic, doesn't matter if they threw the flour. Just the fact that they found the act acceptable would seriously piss me off. |

In answer to the question, if people are being threatened then the police have to act.
Are the people threatening them any better than the boys who did the act? You can't really say you are above the law just because you think it is vile what they did.... |

This is exactly what I would do too if I was a parent. I have friends who have done practically the same for a criminal act their child committed. |

No they shouldn’t. If they get it all it will teach them is they can get away with shit and laugh about it. Without the threat of repercussions how will they learn.
I hope they get what’s coming to them. |

My first thought was no, no protection.
However on balance, yes give them protection, not for them but to stop someone else getting into trouble giving these little pieces of shit what they actually deserve.

Has anybody heard of a case where a person was 'taught the error of that way' whilst serving a sentence in jail ?
Not here unless we include Broadmoor hospital for the criminally insane.
I seem to remember one patient killing other patients with his bare hands (lady killers) as he didn't consider that proper murder lol
We need him on the streets.

Nope. Lots of known scumbags are constantly at risk from other scumbags and they don't warrant police protection. These arseholes can confine themselves to their homes, pay for their own private security for the little that that's worth and call the police if they have any trouble. If they aren't too busy they'll be along in due course.. |

"No, people who break the law don’t deserve protection from it. "
Maybe not, but the law doesn't allow those who disapprove of their actions to break it?
They deserve to be publicly shamed, but none of us have the right to act outside it in lynch mob mentality? |

Protection or not, these kids will get a proper kicking at some point.
I;m not convinced that kicking the shit out of kids is any less reprehensible than what they did

As an aside I think people are over estimating what police protection actually means. They won't be in a safe house. There won;t have an officer outside their house. There will just be a marker on their address and maybe phone numbers that if there's a 999 call it's an urgent priority. |

Of course and as I've said it's inevitable these kids will get what's coming to them. Protection wonlt change that. And no one outside their parents will really give a fuck.
Indifference is one thing, But celebrating tor encouraging that (as many are) is wrong and as a society if the police don't try and prevent that from happening, that's wrong |

Yes, they should have protection. They have had death threats.
I don't think the family complaining that all of this is ruining one of the suspect's birthday should be given air time. There appears to be a skewed sense of entitlement for their 'little prince'.

The above is what will happen.
From experience, be amazed if case even makes it to court. The CPS may decide to run it to make an example of them....usually means slap on wrists, don't do it again.
As for protection, the above is how it'll work....the urgent priority will be treated 'very urgently' too |

I love the way people have a dig at the Daily Mail and Sun readers when this kind of subject matter comes up . These newspapers report this story , and then people are in uproar at the behaviour of the teenage gobs who would do such a thing . Without these papers we wouldn’t know it happened . So it’s a good thing we have them in my opinion .
Do I think they should have police protection ? No , not for a second . They should be named , shamed , and have flour and rotten fruit thrown at them in public stocks outside the town hall . |
