Ive often heard shops use mystery shoppers, but how does it work?. Does the store in question get advanced warning that there will be one, and do you have to be as awkward as possible to the employees to see how they react?

A mystery shopper is someone that goes in and just see's the standard of how the company works no one is told who and when they turn up they can go anywhere and any business

You can watch for the fiddles too if you are in the licenced trade. It's amazing what some bar staff can get up to if they think no one is looking.

The downside is you do it automaticly when just popping out for a drink.

Not so much a mystery shopper but once i was a mystery shopLIFTER!

It was very late, was on the way back from a club in Manchester, stopped at Asda for a drink,& the head of security asked if I would help him test out the staff. He had me take a DVD player out of the shop in plain sight, and I just walked past the staff(the box didnt even set off the alarm!)

Shame I had to give it back but I reckon some of the staff got a rocket!

When I worked in a pub we regularly had them come in from the brewery. You didn't get any warning at all. I was lucky as I was only tested once and I got a half decent report. Some folk got horrors which was a bit unfair as they could have been tested during an exceptionally busy period when you're lest likely to be able to give the wonder service they are looking for.

No you register with a website, they send you an email telling you where to go and you then tell them what the service is like. If you have to spend mine ie it's a restaurant etc, you get reimbursed including your time I think.

I belong to several websites where I have been sent things to try; at the moment I am trying Heinz oven chips, omg they smell and taste delicious

I work shifts in a pub. We used to be warned when they were coming but they don't do it any more

I'm a mystery shopper.

Basically you get a list of assignments, you choose what you want to do.

You get paid a set fee per visit, depends on the company how much you get paid. And if you have to buy something, you get an amount of money to spend.

My favourite is to do them for Body Shop. I get £4.50 for doing the shop, and £7.50 to spend.

Ah Mystery Shoppers... the bane of my life!

At Waitrose we dont get an advanced warning in the slightest. We have one once a month but we they can come anytime of day any day.

We are judged on cleaniness of the store/car park, presentation of the customer service desk, recommendations of a good wine, a random 'luxury' items location, customer serive from the counters, amount of queues at checkouts and wether or not a bag for life was offered.

Obviously each company have different standards, but i dont believe any mystery shopper is paid to be a pain in the arse!
