Just fill the room with Sugar Minott, Gregory, Freddie McG, Frankie Paul and Dennis (oh and don't forget some early Aswad and Maxi, non of his later commercial stuff) because as the late Cool Ruler used to say, 'love will conquer'.
As for the early lovers rock as well as the rocksteady and ska, you'll find most of it on YouTube now.
Oh, and if you like John Holt, check out The Paragons.....sweet. |

Don't know much reggae, but Bob Marley is awesome, doesn't matter what style just pure genius.
And a guy that lived by his beliefs too gave the credits of "No Woman, No Cry" to a chap who ran a soup kitchen in Kinston to insure it would always be there. |

"Got a few Ska compeletion CDs that I got from Tescos! Always worth a look! A more modern one that sticks in my mind is Stand Down Margaret by The Beat."
If you like that, you'll enjoy Prince Buster. He did the original. |

Hurt so good by Susan Cadagon
Dat by Pluto
Your Honour by Pluto
Crying over you by John Holt
You don't love me by Dawn Penn
Jane, you'll need Guiness punch to wash down the jerk chicken. Ackee, saltfish, callaloo and dumplings would also go down a treat. |

a mate of mine was in the beat up until a few years ago!,whenever he had parties at the big house in edgbaston you used to get some great all round music at these and even aswad turned up and played at one party in late 70s or early 80s. |

Fantastic thread with some great tunes; ska for the party, roots for later and the food sounds fantastic.
The music is obviously sorted but I'd add:
Them Belly Full - Bob Marley
400 Miles - Peter Tosh
Handsworth Revolution - Steel Pulse
Cool Down Your Temper - U Roy
for something a bit more "recent":
Under Mi Sensi - Barrington Levy
Crisis - Earl Sixteen
Rocking on Ridley Road - King Hammond
Add some scotch bonnets to the food and the night will be hot, hot, hot!! |

Kashif Lindo...Is It All Over Now. It came out a few moths ago, I play it at nearly every gig I dj.
I used to have a residency at a club/bar on a beach near Newquay and quite often we would have a lock in after hours and I would have a Trojan session for all the stoned surfers |
