WEEK THIRTY!!!

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Thirty!!!

.

.

.

How is everyone doing?

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:

Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.

.

.

.

AND FINALLY:

Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress.

Morning everyone.

How are you all?

Nice to see the updates last week - lots of progress made and a few first races

Welcome to all the newbies to the thread, I'd say pull up a chair and take a seat, but I think tie up your laces and run is more apt.

How is everyone doing with the heat? Just remember to take it easy and drink plenty of water.

Well done everyone on your journey so far

And another new week!

I’m back onto my training plan again after a week or so off for a chest cold, week 8 of 18 now and it’s going to get tougher from here on in. It’s not helped by the fact that I cracked a rib on Friday when I went Karting

Congratulations to everyone that had a race or ran over the weekend, everyone is doing so well.

I’m targeting a half in autumn. Done a couple of 10Ks over summer but need to start adding more slow and long runs into my schedule. Good luck everyone for the week ahead. I’m on 2 weeks A/L so need to plan some runs whilst also having time to have fun with the kids

Afternoon all,

I've a few events coming up but I really need a focused goal. So I've picked a local 10k in October and I'm aiming to beat my time from a couple of years back.

There are two ways of looking at it, running gets in the way of life and life gets in the way of running.

Don't be too hard on yourself if you don't run because you are making memories with your kids. They are only this age once. Missing a couple of long runs now won't hurt any halfs in the Autumn.

It was discussed a couple of months ago, but dismissed for that reason.

I would happily join (I use my real barcode for parkrun socials), but that would be an interesting conversation to have with runners you know IRL.

Just getting back into running after a long time away. Treat myself to some new sneaks and doing a mile and a half a night. It's not much but it's a start.

Wish I'd spotted this sooner too.

I've done nothing this week other than a very tough 4 mile rUn home on monday night. Spent the last 2 days at home with a cold and feel like I've been hit by a bus. I guess that explains Monday's shit effort and probably why last Saturday's parkrun saw me blow quite so spectacularly. Hoping the enforced rest will do me good and that I'm okay for Sunday's 10km

I've never tried Asics. I'm a Brookes girl. I've never had a pair of trainers where I've actually liked the colour, I've always gone for the cheapest pair of Adrenaline in my size.

I always choose a model for comfort/performance, then pick the cheapest colour! I think the colour of your shoes is largely irrelevant when you're 80 miles deep into a race, and covered in snot, dribble and puke!!!

Went for a run earlier, it was a bit too hot for me!!

Failed miserably and went home

Will definately get back into it when it cools down a tad

Just hoping I will be at a similar level when I do and not having to go back a few weeks training

I bought Asics and I think the shop assistant saw mug on my forehead as soon as I entered the store. The colours I liked 'weren't in stock in my size'

So I bought the most expensive pair (they were half price), but still twice as much as I normally pay for trainers!!

FYI, the colour has to be right to match our outfit

So I'm starting week 6 of c25k tomorrow - I decided to follow an actual running plan instead of waddling quickly for as long as I can manage and entering a park run. I know they are friendly and welcoming but I chickened out. So far so good - this fat girl is discovering she can actually run.

I guess that explains Monday's shit effort and probably why last Saturday's parkrun saw me blow quite so spectacularly. Hoping the enforced rest will do me good and that I'm okay for Sunday's 10km

Is it a cold or hayfever?

Either way, I hope you feel better soon!

Definitely a cold, seem to be over the worst of it. Planning a gentle parkrun tomorrow and hopefully okay for sunday although it won;t be a flat out effort"

Take it easy. If parkrun is an effort tomorrow, no run on Sunday.

And yes, I'm a nag!

"So I'm starting week 6 of c25k tomorrow - I decided to follow an actual running plan instead of waddling quickly for as long as I can manage and entering a park run. I know they are friendly and welcoming but I chickened out. So far so good - this fat girl is discovering she can actually run."

Fantastic Meli! How are you finding C25K?

"Went for a run earlier, it was a bit too hot for me!!

Failed miserably and went home

Will definately get back into it when it cools down a tad

Just hoping I will be at a similar level when I do and not having to go back a few weeks training

When was the last time you ran before today? I thought you did a good 11k run last week?

A good week-week and a half ago it was an amazing 11k, today was a rubbish 6k. The heat killed me "

Did you run later in the day? I think it's a bit on the cool side in the mornings (9am). I know you like to run even earlier!

It's meant to rain over the weekend, so maybe try again then?

I'm jealous!

Brooks Adrenaline GTS?

"Go you!

There's mo reason why you can;t walk parkrun while you;re working your way through the weeks, But also totally get the way you are doing it and building towards it"

Thank you BM! Yeah, I know. I think I'd be a bit embarrassed because I've got some way to go yet (I know there's no reason to, but I would). Following a plan just helps me focus and see what I've achieved so far.

"Fantastic Meli! How are you finding C25K?"

Thanks OP! A bit tiring to say the least. At times I can't be arsed because it's warm and it involves me moving but then I think I really should stick to it. The 20 minute run this week was tricky. I feel quite whoop and alive after for a bit and that helps me want to keep running. I've bumbled my stream of consciousness there sorry!

I find it good but tiring basically.

You have done an Ironman?

Hats off to you, I couldn't even do a sprint triathlon!

You managed the 20 minute run though? Well done - you have officially gone further than me on the C25k

The jump on the 20 minute week scared me so much I stopped the program (without attempting it).

"I had some new shoes arrive today - that’s always a good day

Tell us "

Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 - I used to wear Mizuno years ago so for £40 decided to give them another go

Also, good work Meli - well done so far. The fun stuff is still to come

This was after some sort of gait analysis/comparing to similar types of shoes rather than just randomly picking a pair of trainers

Well at the moment I have been running around about the 2.25km mark for 15 mins. I only started back at the gym 3 weeks ago. It is taking a bit of time to loose timber and get fit.

On Thursday I reduced pace a little (down 1km an hour) but pushed it out to 18 mins. I am hoping within next 2 weeks to hit 2.5km for 15 mins which is on 5km in 30 mins pace. Then I will do that for a couple of weeks before moving up to 18 mins

Well done Mike!

Remember that pace isn't everything, a 20 minute 5k is just as far as a 40 minute 5k.

The holiday running has started and it's tough, the 30 deg heat and near 90% humidity at 7am is tough. Trying to stick to 4 or 5 mile runs to keep ticking over and help compensate for the food, beer and wine

I haven't done much runn8bg since my 10k in June. Just sprints on the treadmill. I did manage a cheeky 38 min 4.2k in the rain yesterday though. My times are slowly getting better. The aim is for 30m 5k

Well if I don’t run for a bit I tend to do 10 mins at between 7/8 km an hour or a couple of weeks just to get my body used to it

Go out for a run. Have no prompts with you and see how long you can go. Don't worry about speed or if you have to walk.

Then pick the week closest to that and start from there.

A 30min 5k is a decent target, that’s what I’m aiming for, currently just below that pace sadly lol

I wasn’t actually....I started back at gym and I done 1.5km In 15 mins. you should be able to manage 1km in 10 mins....that’s 6km an hour speed

For me personally I stepped my pace up to just over 10km an hour (just under 15 mins for 2.5km) this morning to see if I can do it. Managed it but was hard work.

Now to get used to doing regular 15 mins at that pace before stepping it up to 18 mins then 21 mins.

My fasted 5km is 28 or so mins...but a decent time is the 30 min mark. For me I am still carrying about 10kg more than I should be.
