I could be walking down the street and a man will lean out of a white van and shout ‘ginger knobhead!’
Now I know why he’s shouting ginger but how did he know I’m a knobhead, I only popped out for a pint of milk and a cut loaf. |

This incident changed how I would tolerate others who mocked red haired people. On the forums, I will grit my teeth and move to another thread or read on. How I react to such threads is maybe something that I should ponder upon.

When I’m in France men in white Citroen vans would shout ‘Tete de gingembre!’ I thought they were being welcoming, I’ve since learned this is ‘ginger knobhead!’ In French.
Even when I’m in another country I can’t get a break. |

Well my best friend is ginger, her hubby is ginger & their offspring (my godchild) is also ginger.
I have taken the piss out of her for a multitude of things over the duration of our 30+ year friendship and her with me. I’m fat, she’s ginger. She’s a terrible cook, I’m awful at timekeeping. She’s forgetful, I’m a geek.

I find it quite disturbing.
I remember about ten years ago a family of redheads died because their house was set on fire by people bullying them. They were bullied because they had red hair.
Why? Just why? Why did sometime deserve that for having features that they cannot change?
That has disturbed me then, and it disturbs me now.
This incident changed how I would tolerate others who mocked red haired people. On the forums, I will grit my teeth and move to another thread or read on. How I react to such threads is maybe something that I should ponder upon.
However IRL, I don't find it acceptable for people to take the piss out of red heads and have no hesitation in stepping up and slapping down that crap. I don't buy the 'it's only a joke'shit. That's what led to a family of red heads getting bullied to death.

Well my best friend is ginger, her hubby is ginger & their offspring (my godchild) is also ginger.
I have taken the piss out of her for a multitude of things over the duration of our 30+ year friendship and her with me. I’m fat, she’s ginger. She’s a terrible cook, I’m awful at timekeeping. She’s forgetful, I’m a geek.

I haven't confused it with anything.
If you have a banter with a good mate and all parties are aware and have found the bantering agreeable, then good for you. Both sides knows the boundaries which should not be crossed.
What I was talking about when pisstaking becomes bullying. I'm sure you will agree that when one side finds it uncomfortable when a boundary is crossed then the fun and games stop. I'm sure that all people on Fab can appreciate the difference. |

I find the comments about the colour of a person hair colour quite offensive. Its just cause it different to the norm. When I was younger I was punch in the face purely cause the guy did not like ginger hair and told me that all gingers are horrible and ugly. His friends just laugh. It not only knocked my confidence for many years but it made me shy for many years till I decided to shave it off. |
